I’m completely and utterly fucked.

It’s up to Cheryl to save Oscar now.

Chapter One-Hundred-One

Cheryl

Thepenspeedsaway, and Everett takes off after it. I rush out from behind the desk and fall flat on my face in front of the fire. Pain bursts through my body. My nose is bloody, and it hurts like hell when I touch it. I partial shift to heal the damage and then I wipe the blood onto the hem of my shirt.

Feeling like an idiot, I sit up and tie the lace that came undone on my sneaker. We came all this way for a fight to the death with a psychotic Alpha and I almost knock myself out because of an undone shoelace. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

My hands shake as I pick up the ledger and get to my feet.

I walk out of the room after I double check my laces. Once I’m sure they’re not going to trip me up again, I move a little faster.

I get to the staircase the housekeeper led us up, and I hear a faraway shout.

Rachel! Oh, Goddess. She’s in trouble. I dart down the stairs and follow my friend’s scent trail.

I rush past the open front door and down another corridor to find her being dragged away backwards by one of Mercer’s Betas. She’s clawing his arm, but he isn’t releasing her.

I throw one of her knockout spells at his feet, activating it when I throw it.

It hits his foot, and he tumbles into a wall, his grip loosening on my friend.

Rachel pushes away and kicks his shin.

“That’s for being a jerk,” she snaps, giving him another kick as he passes out cold.

“What happened?” I ask, looking around.

I don’t see Oscar, or Mercer’s second Beta.

Rachel shudders. “The creep came in through the front door and propositioned me. I told him to get lost and I was ready to hit him with a fireball when he grabbed me.”

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

“He was disgusting,” she says. “But I’m fine.” She frowns. “Where’s Everett? Did you kill the Alpha?”

“I put a tracker spell on a pen. Everett was chasing it when I heard you shout. Did you find Oscar?”

“I did,” she tells me. “I was ready to spell the lock on the closet he’s in when that creepy Beta came along.”

I check my senses and I find Oscar’s scent trail before Rachel shows me the door.

She unlocks it with her magic and opens it.

“Ta-da,” Oscar says as he walks out, as if he did the spell.

I can’t help but smile at him.

“You weren’t supposed to come,” Oscar tells me.

“As if we’d let you stay here,” I tell him.

“The Alpha’s dangerous, Cheryl,” he says. “I get a really fucking bad feeling off him.”

“There’s something really wrong with this whole place,” Rachel agrees. “I’ll be glad when we can get out of here.”
