We don’t know yet if he’s as good as his word.

I give Vi a reassuring smile. “You guys don’t need to be worried about this. We’ve got it under control. Really.”

“I know,” Vi says. “I’m just worried for Oscar. I hope it’s all over quickly.”

“Me too,” I admit. “Anyway, I should get ready. Rachel and Amanda will be here soon.”

“Oh, your coven’s coming,” Ivy says, her eyes lighting up.

She’s fascinated by witch-magic. I’ve promised to let her help me make charms the next time I need to stock up on those. Having the ability to use earth magic has stopped me from practicing charm making, but I should keep my hand in both, so I don’t get rusty.

“They’ll be here about six. I’ll be back down before they get here.”

Chapter Forty-Four

Oscar

Cheryl’sgonefrommyside when I wake up, but my panic calms when I hear the shower in the adjoining bathroom. Everett groans and slaps the alarm clock so hard I’m surprised it doesn’t shatter into a million pieces. The loud beeping sound cuts out, and Noah curses under his breath at my back.

“Fuck that thing is loud,” Everett mumbles, getting up when he cracks his eyes and sees me next to him. “Where’s…” he starts, before he notices the shower sounds and trails off.

“At least I hope it’s Cheryl who’s in the bathroom,” I tell him, making him roll his eyes.

It’s too early for jokes, clearly, and it wasn’t a particularly clever one in the first place.

Damn. Would have liked to have a good one to go out on.

One last night in bed with my pack, one last big meal, one last good laugh.

I guess two out of three isn’t bad.

The mattress creaks behind me. Noah’s up like a shot as usual then. Usually doesn’t need an alarm for that ridiculous behaviour, but today we need to be up earlier than ever. He’s already pulling clothes out of drawers while Everett falls onto his back and lets out a deep sigh.

“Why did we agree to this?” I ask, as a yawn sneaks up on me. It gets me on the final word and makes Everett wince.

“No talking,” he mutters. “It’s too early.”

He’s not wrong. I push my head up and check the time. Not quite six in the morning.

Noah sets a pile of clothes on top of the dresser as the sound of the shower cuts off. His gaze moves in the direction of the bathroom. I can’t help pushing up onto my elbows to see past Everett as our mate steps into the room. She’s wrapped in a towel and her dark hair is wet. No make-up yet.

She’s beautiful. I can’t take my eyes off her.

Last chance to remember everything I had.

She raises an eyebrow as Everett hauls himself up, obscuring my view.

“Everyone’s awake already?” She sounds surprised.

“We can sense it when you’re naked,” I tell her. “It’s like a superpower.”

She laughs, Everett snorts. Noah shakes his head.

I’ll call that one a win. Noah wouldn’t know a joke if it bit him on the ass.

“Rachel and Amanda will be here any minute,” Cheryl says.

Noah picks up his clothes from the top of the dresser and kisses her cheek as he passes.
