I need to get up and drink water. I need to replenish my magic.

I can’t make myself move.

It doesn’t help that my mates have me boxed in. I’d have to climb over Everett who’s sleeping on his side at my right, or both Oscar and Noah who are sleeping on my left. There’s no way I could manage it without waking up everyone.

I don’t know what time it is. I don’t know how close we are to this nightmare with Oscar being over, but I know if I don’t get up in the next ten minutes, I’ll regret it for the rest of the day.

So, I take the third option of wriggling down under the sheets and slipping out the bottom of the bed. It’s harder work than I expect, and I feel a little sick by the time I’m out the other side. Too much movement. I sit on the edge of the bed for a few seconds, waiting to feel less shaky and weird.

It doesn’t get any better.

I tell myself I’ll never replenish my magic without resting first again, but that feels like a lie. I know I’ll ignore the rules again when I need to, when it’s necessary to protect my pack.

I give myself another few seconds before I get up. The room spins a little bit, but my legs aren’t shaky like they were before I went to bed. I go to the mini fridge that sits near the hot tub and I grab a bottle of water. I’m not careful enough with the door, letting it swing shut on its own, but the sound doesn’t seem to wake anyone.

I leave the room once I’ve had enough water to clear my head and feel a bit less like everything’s spinning around me. I find out it’s almost five a.m. so I’m only up a little earlier than we needed to be. I head down the stairs and go out back to replenish my magic without being seen.

It only takes a few seconds to feel grounded again, normal.

Thank Freya.

I get to my feet and go back inside.

The kitchen door is open, and I realize Vi and Ivy must already be up when I hear talking inside.

Everett must have spoken to them when they got home. They’d never be up this early otherwise.

I go into the kitchen, and Vi gets up from the table.

“Cheryl, are you okay?” she asks, as she rushes over.

“I’m fine,” I tell her as she hugs me.

“We were so worried,” she says, letting me go and looking me over.

“I think I might have slept in my make-up,” I realize out loud. I probably look like hell.

“Yeah,” Ivy tells me, from her seat. “Your eyeliner’s a bit smudged but your lips are still fire. You seriously need to give me the brand of that lipstick.”

“Is Oscar okay?” Vi asks.

That’s the big question, isn’t it?

“He will be,” I tell her, knowing it’s true.

We need to work on connecting him with his wolf, but he’ll get there.

“I can’t believe there was another pack in our woods,” Ivy says, shivering slightly.

“I know,” Vi agrees, hugging herself. “It’s so creepy.”

Ivy sips at her coffee. It’s strong and black. I could smell it when I walked into the room.

“Do you think they could still be out there?” Ivy asks.

I shake my head. “The Alpha said he’d tell them to leave.”

Doesn’t mean they will, or that he did actually tell them, I guess.
