The witch turns to us. “Feel free to test the spell before I shut it down.”

Shut it down? What the hell is she talking about?

I look at Rachel, and I find her watching me in concern.

She nods at Mabel. “I’d like to test it first, if that’s okay?” she asks.

The other pack’s chosen witch rolls her eyes. “Whatever.”

Rachel steps forward as the projection stops and starts to loop back around to play from the beginning. I can’t watch that again. I just can’t. I turn to Oscar and the tears in my eyes drip down my cheeks. His skin is ashen. He looks like he might throw up.

“I don’t remember,” he says, shaking his head. “I did this and don’t remember.”

“There’s no way that was real,” Everett says. “No fucking way.”

Rachel takes her time while I stand with my mates, trying to make sense of what we just witnessed.

Noah moves to put his arm around me and Oscar both. He looks as shocked as I feel.

There has to be something wrong with the spell. I watch Rachel as she runs through a barrage of spells that all light up green before the magic fades. Oh, Goddess. It’s real. It can’t be real.

Something must be wrong. Please tell me something’s wrong.

I realize after a few more spells that Rachel’s reaching now. She’s wracking her brain for something that might let us dispute the more accomplished witch’s spell as faulty. I see it when she starts to purse her lips, a frown forming on her face. She has nothing.

The spell isn’t faulty. What we saw is what happened.

Somehow. Someway. It’s real.

“I’m sorry,” Oscar whispers, breaking my heart.

“You can stop,” I tell Rachel.

She gives me a worried glance. “I haven’t found anything.”

“And you won’t,” Mabel says. “This is what happened.”

I close my eyes and try to clear my thoughts. I open them again and look at her.

“It doesn’t make sense. Can’t you use a truth spell on Oscar or something to double check?”

Mabel looks at the other pack. “That’s not usual. The proof is there in living color. You can examine it as much as you’d like. I can leave it looping for ten minutes. Twenty. Whatever you need.”

I need the vision to not show my Omega randomly killing another pack’s shifter.

I press my lips together. I wasn’t prepared for this. I was so sure it wasn’t him.

“He didn’t have blood in his mouth. There was no blood spatter on him, just blood around his mouth and chest. There was nothing on his arms. Nothing on his teeth or in his mouth.”

The witch gives me a sympathetic smile. “I know it can be difficult to believe when a loved one does something so heinous, but regardless of how much blood there was or wasn’t, this glimpse into the past shows how Alyssa Morgan died. Her murderer is clearly depicted. There’s no room left for doubt.”

“Truth-spell her Omega,” Liam says.

His Betas frown at him. He shrugs.

“It can’t hurt to be extra sure.”

Oscar lets go of my hand. “You don’t need to do a spell. I did this. I killed that girl. Alyssa Morgan.”
