I shake my head at him, and he stops.

Thank Freya.

I can’t stop this, but I stopped one of my mates from being swallowed whole by this nightmare. It’s just a shame that saving Carter was the last thing I managed to do before the spell drags me into the house.

The last thing I see before I pass out are my Alpha and Beta being dragged to the same fate.

Chapter Fifty-Eight

Carter

Panicswellsovermeas I watch my pack being swept into the house of nightmares. Instinct makes me want to run to them, but Rachel sees me and the horror in her eyes makes me realize I can’t.

She used her magic to push me out of the reach of whatever or whoever is inside there.

It would have ruined her plan to save me if I’d come too close.

So, I stand there in the rain, getting soaked through to the skin, while I try to get over the shock so I can come up with a plan to save them. From a man-eating house, or something inside it.

I back away to the gate, not feeling safe until I’m holding onto one of the rusted bars and probably getting my jeans and hands stained. Shuddering, I try to think.

Kelly and Dante! They’re supposed to be coming out here.

I can call Amanda and I can call Cheryl. Just as soon as I can get my fingers to stop shaking.

It might be smart to do it in the car, too. Where it’s less windy and wet.

Okay, get moving. This is your chance to be the hero and save your pack and your mate.

Don’t mess it up. Now is not the time to fall apart.

I clamber over the fence, stumbling and tripping and scraping my chin on the ground.

Ouch. That feels pretty nasty.I partial shift my chin to heal the scrape.

So, far, so good.I get to my feet and haul ass to the car, only realizing it’s locked when I grasp the passenger seat handle.Fuck. What now?

Looking around, I realize it doesn’t look like it’s raining over in the nicer part of the street. The well-lit part with the nicely maintained and lived in mansions.

I discount the idea of going to someone’s door and asking to use their phone.

My battery’s not too bad. I can make a couple of calls.

I walk over to the lit area, stopping when the rain’s no longer pelting me.

“This is so fucking weird,” I mutter as I dial Amanda’s number.

I shake my head a little before I put the phone to my ear. I feel like I’ve been swimming in a lake. I must look like drowned emo band member. My running eyeliner’s probably giving me a spooky vibe right now. Knocking on someone’s door looking like this would be a seriously bad idea.

“Hello?” Amanda answers, as if she doesn’t know who it is.

Hah. She probably doesn’t.I doubt she expected Rachel to share her number with her mates.

“Hey, Amanda. It’s Carter,” I start, sounding a little shaky.

“Oh, hey, Carter. What’s up?” she asks.

“Well, we’re at the haunted house and there’s been a development. We could use more back up.”
