“You have no idea how glad I am to see you both,” I tell them. “I’m not picking up your scent trails.”

It’s weird. I know I’m new to this wolf stuff, but if feels like something’s missing because I’m not smelling their natural scents on the air when we’re so close.

“Must be this place,” Silas mutters, frowning at the walls.

Adrian moves in close and hugs me. “I’m so glad we found you.”

He definitely feels like Adrian.

“Me, too,” I agree.

Adrian lets me go, moving to my side and taking my hand. “We should get you out of here.”

“After we deal with the necromancer,” I remind him. I look at Silas. “Did you find your dad?”

He nods. “He’s headed out already. I set Sara free, too.”

“That’s a relief,” I tell him.

Paul said they needed all our souls for the exchange.

If those two are out of here, he doesn’t have enough even if he somehow manages to trap us.

He isn’t fulfilling his end of the bargain he made to gain his freedom.

He won’t be freed, and we can’t be dragged to hell.

That’s what you can a win, win in my book.

“We should head for the main stairs,” I tell them, as Silas starts to turn in the opposite direction.

“Nah,” Adrian says. “That’s too obvious. She’ll be watching those stairs.”

“There’s a better way down and out along here,” Silas says. “But we should hurry. As soon as my dad gets out, that necromancer will feel it. She’ll try to bring us all back here.”

He’s right. She will.

“Okay, lead the way.”

Chapter Sixty-Six

Carter

Amandaarrivesafewminutes after I get off the call to Cheryl. She gives me an apologetic look as she darts down the street toward me.

“Sorry, I’ve never been here before, so I had to use a map and it brought me to the end of the street for some reason,” she blurts as she slows on approach to the streetlight I’m still standing under.

“That’s okay,” I tell her. “I’m glad you’re here.”

“Oh, Goddess, you’re soaked through.”Marmalade!

Her sudden random thought doesn’t make sense. I start to wonder if that’s how she swears. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her curse. Then, the spell hits and I get it. It’s her invocation word. I blink at her as I dry up, a tingle of magic washing over my skin for a hint of a second.

“That feels much better, thanks,” I tell her.

“What happened? Was it raining?”

“It kind of still is, over there,” I nod back at the house.
