Page 8 of Shifting Spirits

“That’s good.” Silas blows out a breath. “I’m glad.”

He was a little more invested in the plan, considering he’d had contact with the spirits involved.

Adrian didn’t want our mate involved in it, and I can understand why.

I can also understand why Rachel had to do it.

She’s not the kind of woman who can turn her back on people she cares about. The moment she knew her friend was in trouble she was ready to go help her out. She didn’t need to think about it.

I know she would have done that regardless of what the threat was.

Our mate is brave and determined. Nothing could have stopped her.

Not even our demanding, over-protective Alpha.

“I can help her, if I’m allowed to sleep next to her.”

Adrian frowns a little harder. “She needs to …”

“Rest. I know. I can help her with that. I have the whole calming touch thing going on, remember? It helps heal energy, so she’ll feel less drained.”

He can’t really argue with that, and he knows it.

“Fine,” he says. “If you wake her, I’m throwing you out of the room.”

“Relax. She’s only going to wake up if she starts to feel good.”

“I’m going to bed. Wake me if Rachel gets up,” Silas mumbles, walking away.

Adrian sighs at me. “Come in once you’re wearing sweats.”

He heads back into his room and closes the door over.

I strip as I walk into my room, tossing my shirt on the floor and leaving my wrist cuffs on the desk next to boxes of temporary hair dye. I haven’t felt like changing my colour once since Rachel’s been here. Now that we’re sharing royal blue as our shade, nothing else would feel right.

It’s hard to describe the pleasure it gives me that she lets me streak the dark color through her long blonde hair, making it obvious to everyone that she belongs with me.

The front of my boxers are straining as I kick off my sneakers and unbutton my jeans.

I know how quickly I’d come if I touched my dick right now, but it wouldn’t be satisfying. I’d only want more and lying beside Rachel would drive me crazy. There’s no way Adrian wouldn’t kick me out the room if I started coming in my pants from rubbing against her sleeping body.

Sighing, I find a pair of sweatpants and a plain black T-shirt.

It’s not really cold enough for outerwear as pyjamas but being too warm is better than being told to go sleep in my own room.

I put the clothes on and make a quick bathroom stop before I get to my final destination.

Adrian growls when I don’t quite close the door quietly enough.

He growls again when I make the mattress bounce a little as I slip in beside Rachel.

The sheets are a bit tangled, so I’m only partly covered, but considering I’m in sweats it doesn’t matter. My mate is still breathing slowly and calmly in her sleep. I wrap an arm around her from behind and close my eyes as I start to concentrate on the special ability I have that doesn’t piss everyone off. The calming, healing touch that comes from being an Omega.

My body tingles a little all over, which surprises me, I’ll admit.

The energy usually comes from my hands, but tonight it only starts with my fingertips, moving upward to flood from my arms and chest, and the rest of my body.

Rachel’s body absorbs the restorative energy as fast as mine can make it.
