“Then stay with one of your other friends.”

“But I want to stay here.”

“It’s only a matter of time before they figure out who you are and where you live.” I rest my hands on her shoulders. “Before you know it, you’re going to have paparazzi camped around your home and your office. Trust me. You’re in the spotlight, whether you like it or not. The best thing you can do right now is lay low.”

“You’re right.” She frowns, and I want to smooth the lines between her brows with my thumb. “I hate that you’re right.”

I can’t help but smile at the win. “Okay, go pack a bag.”

Marcy pauses in the doorway to her bedroom, resting her hand on the frame. “Were you serious?”

“About what?”

“Letting me stay with you?” She draws her lower lip between her teeth, and I suppress a growl of protectiveness.

“Of course.” I take two steps and pull her into my arms. “For as long as you want.”

My lips nearly spill the word forever but it’s a delicate time. I don’t want to push her. We’ll talk about us later once we’re at my place.

Twenty-five minutes later, I’m wheeling her suitcase to the curb and hailing a cab. Marcy climbs in beside me and gives the cabbie my address. I pull her against me to kiss her temple. She leans her head against me, and we ride in silence.

I like this. Having her nestled by my side, certain of her safety.

“We should tell Arthur.” Her voice drifts up on a murmur.

“You should.” I hold her tight. “He’ll find out sooner or later. It’s best if he hears it from you.”

“I’m sorry.” She sniffs. “I should have told you.”

“It’s okay. I’m just glad you’re safe.”

“How did you find out?” She leans back and searches my face.

“Some of the nurses were talking about it, and I saw the photo on a magazine cover.”

She winces. “I should have told you.”

“It doesn’t matter now, baby.” I press a soft kiss to her lips. “Let’s make sure your brother doesn’t find out the same way. I don’t think he’ll take it as well as I did.”

“You took it well?” She scoffs.

“Hell no. I was about to tear the ER apart.” Her smile warms my soul. “If I ever see him, I’ll rip him to shreds.”

“Don’t.” Marcy shakes her head, eyes wide. “Don’t make it more complicated than it already is.”

Something about her tone soothes the furious beast inside me. I nod and pull her into my arms once more. I love this woman. It feels so good to finally hold her.

And I’m never letting go. Until death do we part.

Chapter Twenty-One

Marcy

Arthur is going to lose his shit.

Rob squeezes my hand and knocks on the door of my brother’s penthouse. “It’ll be fine,” he whispers in my ear when the lock rattles against the door.

Inhaling a deep breath as it opens, I brace myself for the oncoming storm. Kate’s kind smile greets us.
