“I agree.” Harmony stood, and Saint did the same. “I’ll call you later, but um… I’ll see you Monday, Mr. Knowles.”

The left side of his mouth lifted into a smile. “That you will, Ms. Jacobs.”

The moment Saint made it out to his car he called Kahlil. He’d need to go for a run as soon as he made it home to work off the sexual energy being in Harmony’s presence had filled him with. Typically, Saint didn’t have to flirt and work to get women. Because of who he was, they threw themselves at him. If he was interested, he’d take the bait. If not, he’d shut them down. But Harmony? Harmony was the kind of woman that required work, and Saint was honestly looking forward to the pursuit.

Kahlil answered the call with a chuckle, as if he already knew what Saint was about to say.

“What’s up, brother?”

“Man, say! Why didn’t you warn me?”

Kahlil released a robust laugh that made Saint join in. “I wanted you to experience that for yourself, just like I had to do with my Honey. Harmony’s beautiful, though, isn’t she?”

“Bro…” Saint sucked his teeth and shook his head as he cut his car on, waiting for the call to connect to his Bluetooth before he continued. “I literally could not take my eyes off her. She’s beautiful, but she’s so damnpretty. She’s like a work of art. All those delicate features. I’ve seen a lot of beautiful and sexy women all over the world, but Harmony is in a league of her own.”

“So are you going to try and work there still, or are you trying to make things between the two of you personal?”

“Both. I can tell she won’t give in to how she feels easily. She won’t deny us, but I feel like she’s going to be at war with her own self for a while.”

“Well, I’m going to let her tell you about her situation, but she has a reason for it.”

“She’s not married, is she?”

“Nah,” was all Kahlil offered, and Saint knew he wouldn’t get too much more out of him. Though the crew gossiped just like women at times, Kahlil wouldn’t tell Harmony’s business or anyone else’s for that matter.

“Good lookin’ out, brother. I’ll keep you posted on how things go.”

“Always. I’m sure we’ll be linking up for a double date soon.”

Saint chuckled as he disconnected the call, mumbling a soft, “Maybe,” under his breath to himself.

ChapterNineteen

Harmony

She’d been staringat Saint’s number for a while, unsure if she wanted to use it. Her siblings had come over to her place, and though she’d been enjoying herself, thoughts of Saint had her trapped in her own mind. Ever since he came for the interview yesterday, Harmony’s mind struggled to release him. That was the first time she’d ever felt so sexually charged toward a stranger. With all of her adult relationships, Harmony had taken pride in making men wait at least three months before having sex with them, but with Saint, she was close to letting him inside of her on day one.

What made it even worse was the fact that they’d be temporarily working together. How would they maintain a professional relationship lusting after and flirting with one another so blatantly? A slow smile spread her lips at the thought of how engaging with him made her feel. It was electric, and exciting… something she hadn’t felt with Keith except at the start of their relationship. Harmony tried to convince herself that the attraction was so strong because the connection was so new, and like with others, it would wear off eventually, but was that really true?

Setting her phone down, Harmony made her way out of her bedroom. She’d gone in to use the bathroom but lingered behind as she considered calling Saint. Though she told him she’d call to discuss boundaries, Harmony wasn’t sure what that would entail. If she told him she wanted to keep it strictly professional, she’d be lying to the both of them.

While her brothers sat at the dining room table playing dominoes, Angel was in the kitchen cutting cheese for a pot of Rotel. With a sigh, Harmony leaned against the silver and black counter and said, “I have a dilemma.”

“What is it?” Angel asked, looking over at her younger sister with a small smile.

All four of the siblings looked alike but had distinct features that set them apart as well. They all had the same skin tone, and Angel and Harmony both had thick, silky hair, but Angel had their father’s eyes and lips, while Harmony favored their mother more.

“So… You know I said I was interviewing someone new at the library yesterday, right?”

“Right.”

“Well, it was Saint.”

Angel stopped dicing. “Saint the rapper Saint?”

Harmony giggled. “Yes.”

“The hell was he doing there? Why would he want to work at a library in Memphis?”
