She pulled it out, sure the bag costed more than her Honda Accord, even with it being a 2021 model. The bag had to have been twenty to thirty thousand dollars, and though Harmony was happy to receive it, the thought behind it is what surprised her even more.

With a tsk, Harmony placed the bag on the sofa. “I’m grateful, truly, for the bag, but what means the most to me is that, while taking care of your sister, you thought of me too. That thoughtfulness and priority means more to me than you know. I know you have money, and you can spend it freely.” She chuckled as her eyes watered. Swallowing hard, Harmony squeezed the back of her neck. “A purchase like this is probably nothing to you, but thank you, Saint.”

“I’ve made enough money in my life to give it its proper place. It’s simply a resource to get, have, and do the things I want and need. In that moment, I wanted to get you something to let you know I was thinking about you, so I did.”

Harmony chuckled as she pulled him into her arms for a hug. “I appreciate the popcorn and wine just as much as this bag, just so you know. Thank you so much.”

His hands slid up her back to her neck, and when they put a small ounce of space between them, Saint connected his lips with hers. As they pulled away, their eyes remained locked for seconds on end. Harmony found it difficult to read his, but whatever she saw made her body shiver. Putting space between them, she cleared her throat.

“Um… So what did you have planned for the day?” she checked.

“I figured we could just talk and get to know each other a little better.”

Harmony’s grin spread as she followed him out of the room. “That’s included when the plan is to get our lust out of the way?”

“I mean… I wanna know the woman whose legs I intend to have wrapped around me all night tonight. If I’m going to be inside of you, I want to know you in all ways.”

“That’s what I’m scared of,” Harmony admitted. “I’ve never had a casual, sexual relationship. I’m afraid I’ll catch feelings for you that you won’t be able to return. And I’m not trying to be in a relationship right now either, so I’m not intentionally trying to trap you or saying I’m cool with this being just sex when I’m not. I just know, if we spend a lot of time together and continue to get to know each other intimately, I’m going to develop feelings for you. And you being kind, affectionate, thoughtful… that’s not making it any easier.”

Saint’s head shook as he gave her an amused chortle. “Would you prefer I treat you like shit before I fuck you? Because that’s not my style.” Stopping in the entryway hallway, Saint took both of her hands into his. “I’m a protector and spoiler. The better a person takes care of me, the better I take care of them. That’s just my nature. Romantic relationships are a bit more difficult for me to navigate, but as I said before, I thrive in transactional relationships. I don’t want to make you fall for me knowing I can’t catch you, but I also can’t go against my nature and give you experiences that are less than you deserve.” Her head lowered briefly, but he tilted it by placing his pointer finger under her chin. “I’m the type of man that will fly you to Italy on a whim if you want Italian. Paris when you want to shop. Greece when you want a change of scenery. That’s just the kind of man I am.”

Harmony softly pushed his hand down from her face as her nerves began to rattle. “Saint, I don’t know if I can do this. I just got out of a relationship that I felt like I was in alone, and you just got divorced. The last thing we need is for me to catch feelings.” As she chuckled nervously, she put more space between them. “You might call it a transactional relationship, but to me, it sounds like a partnership of equality, and that’s where I thrive too. But at the end of the day, we agreed that this would be just sex. I don’t know if I can do that.”

He pouted softly before his expression hardened. With a vocal exhale, his head bobbed. “Then you have the right idea. We should stop this before it truly gets started.”

With a nod, Harmony nibbled her cheek as her eyes watered. She felt like they were breaking up and they hadn’t even started yet.

“So… I’ll see you tomorrow at the library?”

Saint’s head bobbed once as he stared at her with a blank expression. “Yeah.”

Her shame had Harmony’s movements quickening. Harmony made it outside to her car before Saint was following behind her with the bag. “Take this. I’ll keep the wine and popcorn here until you come to your senses and stop running away from the very thing you need right now.”

“Saint…”

“Shh.” His finger was against her lips as he pressed her into her car. “I might not be around for a long time, but I can promise you a good time. For once, stop thinking about the future and just live in the moment. Go after yours and get exactly what you want, Harmony, without fear of what may or may not happen next.”

Saint placed a kiss to the center of her forehead that almost felt like a branding before walking away, and Harmony didn’t have the power to get into her car until he was no longer in sight.

“You have lost your mind, sis. I’m convinced.”

Harmony chuckled as she walked around her kitchen, prepping what she’d need to make for dinner. She’d called Angel on FaceTime once she’d processed what happened with her and Saint earlier.

“I think I’m quite sane actually. What would be crazy is dealing with a man like Saint and thinking my life won’t be changed by it.”

“I’m just trying to figure out why him buying you a Birkin would make you leave. That’s what makes most women stay.”

Sighing, Harmony set the carrots and celery she’d need for her pot roast on the counter before going to stand directly in front of her phone that was on the counter.

“It wasn’t the purse, sis. It was how casually he had my favorite snack at his place. Something so simple. Then he followed up with the bag. Something so… not. We spent one day and night together, and he’d already picked up on what I enjoy and my style. And he didn’t just engrain it in his memory and forget about it; he actually did something to make me happy. That’s not the kind of man you simply fuck. That’s the kind of man that makes you fuck around and fall in love.”

Angel cursed under her breath. “Okay, I see where you’re going with that. Especially after being with Keith, a man who wasn’t even doing the bare minimum toward the end. I understand how a man being so thoughtful and perceptive could scare you.”

“Exactly.” Relief softened her voice, expression, and defenses. “All I could think about was how wet my pussy was going to be later that night and the fact that I wouldn’t want to leave. I mean, the man’s dick was the best I ever had. He fucked me into oblivion in my least favorite position! I hated doggy style and he had me begging for more. Can you imagine what would’ve happened if I let that man have me missionary? Looking all in his eyes and kissing him and shit? Nah. I’m not about to set myself up for failure like that.”

Angel tried to cover her mouth, but that didn’t stop her laugh from seeping through.
