“Your crazy ass.”

“But I’m serious! I’m not built for casual sex, Angel. I’m just not.”

“Well, I guess you did the right thing, then. But I wish you both were in a place where you were open for love. I saw the way you two looked at each other, and something is definitely there… something beyond lust.”

With a pout, Harmony looked over the meal she was about to prepare and eat alone. There would be enough roast for her to take some to her parents after work tomorrow so it wouldn’t go to waste.

“Well, whatever it was, it’s over. We both made it clear that it would be just sex, and since I can no longer agree to that, I had to call it off.”

“Yeah, but do you think it’s really going to be that easy? He starts at the library tomorrow, right? I got a feeling he’s going to have you pressed against one of those shelves of books before the day is over.”

Though Harmony laughed, that was her fear too. Saint released her, but he also made it clear he expected her to come back for more…

ChapterTwenty-Two

Saint

“How isit over and it just started?” Hosea asked.

Saint and the crew had met up at Hosea’s lounge for drinks that night, and as soon as Kahlil asked about Harmony, Saint told him it was a wrap.

“We agreed to just sex but she’s afraid she’ll catch feelings, so we agreed to end it.”

“I hate that,” Kahlil admitted. “I just knew she was the one for you.”

“That’s the problem,” Saint said. “I don’t need the one right now. I’m just trying to…” His head shook as he shrugged and stared at his whisky. “Keep myself from going crazy without my music. After what I went through with Tristan, I don’t have the capacity for anything serious.”

Hosea, Kahlil, and Tyreek all exchanged glances before taking chugs of their drinks, and the sight made Saint frown.

“What was that about?” he asked defensively, making them laugh.

“You see what kind of situation I just got out of,” Hosea reminded. “I let what happened with me and Mariah keep me down for a year, but the second I got out of my own way, I found everything I wanted in your sister.”

“We just don’t want you to let what happened with Tristan keep you from a good woman,” Tyreek added.

“And Harmony is a damn good woman,” Kahlil said. “Just from my brief interactions with her while she was helping Honey with her book…”

“She’s an author or coach or some shit?” Saint asked, interest piqued.

Art was art, and he respected every form.

“She is both.”

Saint’s head shook. The last thing he needed was information about Harmony that made him want to know more.

“It’s not that I’m going to let what Tristan did taint love for me. Being honest, I’ve never had it, so I can’t say she ruined it for me. I just don’t want that trauma to change the way I react to women. They don’t deserve to deal with my paranoia and mistrust because I trusted the wrong woman. I can’t punish them for some shit she did.”

“I agree,” Kahlil said. “But to me, singleness is where you start your healing, it ends in love. You can’t really see the progress you’re making until you’re in a relationship. How can you know you’re healing and more trusting if you don’t date and experience women?”

“You have the right idea not wanting to hurt anyone or make them pay for her choices,” Hosea made clear. “But what about the fact that for your entire fucking life you’ve missed out on getting the love we all deserve? All that hard shit set aside. Ain’t a man in our crew that can say he doesn’t want what me and Kahlil have.”

“Except Damien’s ass,” Tyreek muttered, and they all laughed.

“That’s true,” Saint agreed through his chuckle.

“Man, if anyone deserves love and a healthy relationship… it’s you,” Hosea added.

“I agree,” Kahlil said.
