“I can’t just miss you?”

“I know you miss me, but I can tell you’re upset too.”

Nibbling her cheek, Harmony’s head shook as she mentally decided what all she wanted to share. “Keith randomly popped up.”

Though they weren’t committed to each other, Harmony still looked him over to gauge his reaction to her words. Saint remained neutral.

“Did he hurt you?”

Her head shook as she smiled softly. “No. More than anything, I think I was angry at myself for staying with him as long as I did. I can say I had good intentions and tried to be there for him because he was sick, but sick or not, the way he treated me was unacceptable.”

“You’re free of him now, so why are you punishing yourself in the present for something that happened in the past?”

“Because,” she grumbled, voice trembling as her eyes watered. “It made me feel stupid for being good to him and loving him.”

Saint chuckled softly as he lifted her head. “I’ma tell you straight like this, and this the only time I wanna have this conversation.” Harmony nodded. “When a man is in tune with who he is as a man and what is expected of him, he seeks a woman like you. The world expects us to be hard, so we need a woman that we can be safe and soft with. One whose softness we can rest in. If he isn’t providing a safe space for you to thrive in what you have to offer him, he isn’t worthy of it, of you. So any nigga that loses you, that’s his loss.

“I’on want you to let him or anyone else make you feel bad for being good… for being solid… for being caring and loyal and staying by his side. Men out hereachingfor a woman like that. Life has hardened them to the point where they can’t even trust the woman they’re with enough to open up to them and accept the love and softness they possess.” Saint paused, eyes watering and jaw clenching, and Harmony didn’t have to question it—he was talking about himself. “What you have in you, that’s a superpower.

“Women like you make men gleam. Don’t let him taking advantage of that change you, you hear me?” Her head nodded rapidly as she fought her tears. “You weren’t stupid, you were a good woman, and though you weren’t the good woman for him, I promise you there’s a man out there that will cherish you and give you the world for the same love and loyalty you gave him.”

“Saint?” she called quietly.

“Yes, Harmony?”

“Is it time for you to put my ankles by your ears yet?”

Harmony was serious, but his deep laughter made her smile.

“In a minute. I wanna know how your books are doing.”

“Listen, I can’t thank you enough. Every time I check I want to cry. I’ve gotten so many new followers and the last time I checked, I had sixteen hundred orders on my website. There were so many notifications I deleted the app off my phone, so I haven’t checked in a few hours.”

“And what about your books on Amazon?”

“You know what? I didn’t even look on there. I figured since so many people were buying paperbacks, they weren’t going to my Amazon page.”

Saint gave her a cocky grin before slumping further on the couch and gripping her waist. “You should check your Amazon, bae.”

Harmony grabbed her phone and typed her name in the search bar. When she saw all ten of her books pop up, several of which had number one banners next to them, she jumped from his lap as she gasped.

As she clicked her most recent title, surprise oozed through every inch of her frame.

“No,” she mumbled with a shake of her head. “This can’t be,” she muttered in disbelief. Her eyes met his. “It says…” Harmony chuckled, body swaying weakly. Saint stood and wrapped his arm around her, leading her back to the couch. “It says my book is number one in the world. Not just within its genres, but number one in the fucking world, Saint! Oh my God! Oh my fucking God!”

She clicked one book after another, hands and legs shaking and eyes pouring tears. All of her books had seen a huge decrease on the charts and were all within the top twenty-five on Amazon’s overall ranking. Her most recent releases held the top three spots overall.

“Congratulations, beautiful. You deserve this and so much more. You’re an amazing author, and I’m glad I was able to help you get the visibility you deserve.”

Her pout turned into a sob, and Saint released a low chuckle as he held her.

“Thank you,” she muttered through sniffles. “I don’t feel like that’s good enough.”

“That’s more than enough, but I’ll take a homecooked meal too if you don’t mind.”

“I’ll fix whatever you want, just name it.” They shared a laugh as she wiped her face. “I have to call everyone and tell them. Thank you so, so much, babe! You don’t know what this means to me.” She paused and thought it over. “Well, I’m sure this is how you felt the first time someone gave you a platform for your music, so you should know exactly how I feel and how grateful I am.”

“I do. Call yo’ folks and tell them the good news so I can take you out to celebrate. They can come along if they’d like.”
