The following morning, he was up and getting dressed for a day party like the night before hadn’t happened, meanwhile, Harmony hadn’t even found the strength to get out of the damn bed.

“If this is what tour life was like for you, I can see why you said you wanted to chill at home and rest.”

Saint chuckled as he leaned against the bathroom door frame.

“If you want to stay in and rest, we can do that, bae. I did promise my homie I’d pull up to this day party since he announced we would be there, but we don’t have to. Or I can go and show my face real quick and come back.”

“I don’t want you to renege on your word for me. If anything, I’ll just get there late. I need a hot, long shower and a cup of coffee before I can do anything.”

“I’ve already ordered room service. It should be up shortly.”

Saint placed a kiss on her forehead before returning to the bathroom to get dressed. When he was done, she went inside to shower and make herself more presentable, though she didn’t bother putting on her outfit for the day party yet. By the time she was done, their breakfast had arrived. As she plopped down in the chair across from him, Saint laughed.

“You good, bae?”

“Yes. I just have a new respect for you now.”

He laughed again. “Well, thank you, and thank you for agreeing to come here with me. I wanted to bring in the new month and new year with you for a specific reason.”

Harmony’s eyes shifted from their food as he uncovered it back to Saint. He looked devilishly handsome in a crisp white button-down shirt and black jeans. The first few buttons were undone, showing glimpses of the tattoos on his chest. Several chains hung from his neck, giving his signature street look that she loved. He’d probably trade the button-down shirt for a classic white T-shirt after the party, and Harmony already had a dress in mind to match him either way.

“What’s the reason?” she asked, laughing at the sight of the hamburger he ordered for her, while he got a regular breakfast platter for himself. “This is the kind of thing that will make me love you.”

Saint chuckled. “I knew you wouldn’t want fruit or anything sweet, so a burger and black coffee is always the best option after a night of drinking.”

Harmony’s mind took her back to the morning they had breakfast with Cartier and Hosea. How Cartier said Hosea made everything easy. At that moment, Harmony understood what she meant.

“But to answer your question,” Saint continued. “I brought you here because the last thirty-one days with you have been amazing. Meeting you December first has brought about some great changes for me. In the past month, you’ve shown me more love, care, respect, appreciation, acceptance, and support than any other woman I was romantically involved with. And you haven’t just given me a lot, you’ve inspired me to give more too and be the best version of myself that I can possibly be. It seemed fitting to bring in the new year with you, and I hope you know I want to have many more too.”

“Babe,” she called sweetly, standing and making her way over to his lap. “I feel the exact same way. Sometimes I can’t believe we’ve been in each other’s lives for only a month. They say if God doesn’t want you with someone, He won’t let you have any peace. With you, that’s all I ever feel—Peace and happiness. I keep trying to tell myself to slow down and not move too fast, but it feels so natural with you. I’m happy to have spent the last month with you, and I can’t wait to spend so many more with you.”

Saint’s smile was small as he cupped her cheek and connected their lips. As soon as his tongue connected with hers, her nipples began to harden. She sighed into his mouth, always finding herself just as swept off her feet by the feel of his lips as she was the first time they kissed.

Pulling away from him, Harmony rested her forehead on his for a few seconds before trying to get up, but Saint wrapped his arm around her and kept her close.

“You know what to do,” he reminded, lifting his coffee to take a sip.

Harmony chuckled as she reached across the table and pulled her plate closer so she could eat while sitting on his lap.

“How did you feel performing last night?” she asked before taking a bite of her burger.

“I felt like I was back home, you feel me?” His head shook as he sliced his omelet in half. “It felt good as hell, I can’t even lie.”

“You were amazing. The light in your eyes, the smile on your face. Your entire aura changed when you got on that stage. You held me captivated with every song. That’s truly where you belong.”

“I try not to obsess over it because it’s beyond my control. I’m trying to accept it because that’s the only way I’ll be able to move on. But being on that stage last night felt like an addict having a hit of something they knew they needed to stay away from. I don’t know how much longer I can go without my music, bae.”

“So what would happen if you went against the contract? Were there any stipulations for that, or does it just say you can do it for X amount of time?”

Saint’s head shook as he chewed his food. “She can sue me, of course, but she can also have any singles I dropped removed. And if I book any shows, she has the right to cancel them.”

“Damn,” Harmony muttered before nibbling her bottom lip in deep thought. “Do you think she’s going to have something to say about the show last night?”

“Nah. I watched a few videos that were posted from last night, and it’s clear I wasn’t scheduled to perform and there wasn’t any money exchanged, so I’m good on that.”

“Well, hopefully she’ll release you from her heart soon enough and release you from those contracts. I would hate to not be able to do what I love, especially because of someone I thought loved me.”

Not bothering to reply, Saint nodded in agreement before giving his plate his full attention. Just as he sensed when her moods shifted, she sensed when his did too. The sadness that consumed him entered her just as well. She placed a kiss on his temple, smiling when he gave her a hug.
