The hellhound guy growled back,“Probably,”but made no move to turn around.I remembered what Calian had said, about the leaders thinking that mate connections could possibly happen over time too, even though they hadn’t proven it.

“None of my people had a chance,” the sabertooth guy said, his voice lowering. “When they hear about sex, they will come for you.”

“I’ll await it eagerly,” Lian drawled.

A snort escaped the phoenix guy, and I jerked my head toward him as he said, “Your power feels like mine now, brother.”

Calian’s chuckle made my shoulders relax slightly. “It feels different. Both phoenix and dragon.” He held out an arm, and I watched fire dance along it. The flames looked different than they had the day before—less like his and more like mine. “What do the borders look like?”

“No sign of unseelies yet, but they’ll be sending a party to check after the disturbance of your mating. You should meet them there.”

Lian dipped his head in a nod. “We’ll head there after we pick up clothes from the Stronghold.”

I was going to be meeting unseelies at the border between their lands?

That sounded kind of awesome.

“I saw the hole you left in its roof, brother,” the phoenix remarked with a bit of a grin. “Do you have someone to fix it yet?”

“Not yet. I’m sure there’s a line of volunteers outside, though.”

“I’ll do it,” the sabertooth guy said.

“I’ll help,” the basilisk added.

Now that they’d heard about sex, I figured the bastards wanted another chance to sniff around the ladies inside the Stronghold. I’d warn the other girls before we left them alone with the Wild Hunt bastards, if I had the chance.

“Thank you.” Calian nodded toward them, and both men nodded back.

They both turned and headed back into the forest, shifting smoothly as they went. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to feel so in tune with my animal side that I’d shift as easily and quickly as they did, but something about the idea sounded really damn appealing to me.

“Get out of here. I need a minute with my female before we fly for the border,” Lian growled at them, his voice taking on a bit of teasing.

“We’ll hold it for you. Enjoy, brother.” The hellhound guy smirked before he too turned and shifted.

The phoenix fae studied us for a few long moments before he shifted and took off into the air, fire licking the space he had been a moment earlier as he vanished into the sky.

“Do powerful bastards always get together and team up?” I asked Lian. I couldn’t decide whether the group of them reminded me of prison, my foster homes, or my high school.

“Like attracts like.” The man shrugged. “If you don’t have family, it’s because you haven’t found the right people yet.

He had no idea how hard his words hit me, but my throat swelled anyway.

I didn’t say a damn thing as I stepped away from him.

“Leave the clothes here so you don’t burn them in your shift,” he instructed me, watching me closely. Maybe he could tell that my mood had changed.

“Yes sir,” I muttered, tugging my top off first.

The way his damned gaze trailed over my skin made my cheeks flush, but I ignored the heat.

My pants joined the shirt, and then I jogged out the cave’s opening, seeking the power I felt thrumming lightly in my veins. When I found the sensation, I focused on it, and the beat picked up faster.

The change took over my body, and warmth flooded me as I shifted forms. A grin stretched my cheeks before they shifted, my shape morphing as the fire and liquid gold of the creature I’d become took hold of me.

My wings spread, and I lifted my chin at the powerful stretch of them.

Fuck, I was something incredible.
