“Yes, yes, I know,” he replied after I was finished explaining. “Finn should be there now.”

The calmness in his tone left me stunned.

“I apologize, Samara. It’s my mistake. Hurry along now, my Queen, we have much to discuss when you arrive.”

I blinked down at the phone when he hung up, taken aback by his mood. Deciding not to waste any more time, I put my phone away, hauled up my bags, then walked out the door.

Just as Damien predicted, Finn was outside the gate waiting for me. Strangely the guards were gone but the gate was left wide open for anyone to leave or enter.

I approached the SUV and opened the back door, tossing my bags inside. As I opened the passenger door, I flinched back in shock at Finn’s face.

“Holy fuck, Finn,” I squealed, hopping inside and slamming the door shut behind me. “What the fuck happened to you?”

A huge gash that was starting to scar covered the left side of his face, stretching from the tip of his lip across to his ear. My mouth fell open the harder I stared at it. Finn sighed then angrily shook his head.

“Damien fucking shot me.”

“What?” I scoffed.

“Yeah.” He pulled into the school then looped around the fountain, stomping on the gas. “All because I saved you.”

“Wait, what?” I continued to stare at him, confused by his words. “Finn, what are you talking about?”

“I was there that night. The night Damien ordered us to snatch a girl off campus.”

My mouth dropped wider. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

He shook his head. “No, I’m not. I was there, Samara, and I saw everything. I took a bullet for you, kid. But I will say this though, Jace trained you very well. You should be proud of yourself. You fought your fucking heart out.”

It grew quiet for a moment as he continued to drive. “I-I don’t understand,” I muttered. “I spoke to Ginger a few days ago and she didn’t tell me about any of this.”

“Ginger has her own shit to worry about,” he snarled, his bottom lip quivering.

“Oh, fuck…so you…”

“Yeah, Samara, I know about the Harvest. I know a lot fucking more than any of you realize.”

“But how?”

“It doesn’t matter how I know. Jace didn’t tell me and Ginger sure as hell didn’t have the courage to tell me. Neither did you. I found out from another source.”

“Who?”

“I just told you it doesn’t fucking matter,” he growled. “What you need to worry about is getting your story straight to Damien. If you don’t have anything solid to deliver to him, he’s pulling you out. Not trying to be a dick here, but I suggest you stop worrying about shit that doesn’t concern you and worry more about yourself.”

“Finn…” I looked away from him, tears burning my eyes. “I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, I’m sure you are, kid.”

It was quiet the rest of the drive to the club. When Finn parked, I got out the car, grabbed my bags, then walked in through the back, my heart pounding hard.

“Samara!”

I walked inside the locker room to spot Ginger getting ready to walk out with a bouncer right behind her.

“Give us a minute,” Ginger pled to the guy. “Please.”

The bouncer grunted then rolled his eyes before walking out the door. When he was gone, we held each other tight, tears streaming down both of our faces.
