“Please tell me Jace has a plan.”

“He does,” she whispered when we parted. “It’s a long story and I don’t have time to explain it to you. Damien is here and waiting for me along with the other girls.”

“Who else is going?”

“It’s me, Tiffany, and Star, but that doesn’t matter right now.” She cupped my cheek. Tears continued to rain down her face as she stared at me, brushing her thumb across my skin. “I love you, so much. No matter what happens tonight, I want you to know that I’m always with you. I’m sorry for everything, Samara. I should’ve told you the truth sooner.”

“It’s okay,” I promised. “It’s okay. Wh-where’s Jace?”

“He’s not here.” Her words shattered my heart into a million pieces. “He’s at Vicki’s grave, mourning. But he’ll be here soon. I—”

The door to the locker room flew open then, making Ginger and I both cry out and cling to one another. Relief swept over our faces as we saw Finn standing there.

“Baby…”

Finn closed the door and locked it behind him before he approached Ginger and clasped her face, kissing her deeply.

I moved away to give them some space, wiping at my eyes.

“I love you,” he rasped. “I have no idea if I’m ever going to see you again after tonight. Ihaveto do this while I still can, and I can only pray you’ll say yes.”

I watched with wide eyes as Finn got down on one knee and reached behind him to his back pocket, pulling out a ring box.

Ginger sobbed as he opened it, exposing a gorgeous diamond ring.

“I love you, Ginger. Always have and always will. Even if tonight may be our last time seeing each other, give me this one last gift, and I’ll cherish it forever. Please, my love, will you marry me?”

Ginger looked at me then, her lips parted as she sobbed. I nodded and continued to wipe my face.

“Yes.” Ginger dropped to her knees, nodding as she reached out and wrapped her arms around him. “Yes, Finn. Yes.”

I didn’t have to see Finn’s face to know he was crying. As he pulled the ring out the box, ready to slide it on her finger, Ginger grabbed his hand, shaking her head.

“Keep it,” she whispered. “If Damien see’s it, he’ll take it. Keep it safe for me, until we meet again, okay?”

“Okay, my love. Anything for you.”

They kissed again and held onto each other tight. With a moment like this, I figured it was best to give them some privacy.

“I’m gonna go see Damien,” I said, clearing my throat. “Congratulations. I hope it works out.”

I unlocked the door and stepped out, steeling my face and praying like hell the swelling in my cheeks would go down before Damien opened the door.

When I knocked, it took no time for him to answer. Damien stepped back, observing me closely.

“What’s wrong, my Queen? Did someone upset you?”

“No, of course not. Just a little nervous is all.”

Damien opened the door wider and allowed me entry. As he shut the door behind him, he stalked over to his couch and sank down, patting the cushion next to him as an invitation for me to sit.

I held my breath, reminding myself not to lose my shit when he reached up and brushed his knuckles across my jaw.

“What news do you have for me?”

“They recruited me.”

Damien pulled away from me then, a muscle thrumming along his jaw. “What do you mean they recruited you?”
