“Ravagers,” he muttered as he tilted his head to the side, scoping over Rhett and Isaac behind me. “Not here to cause trouble, are you?”

“Not at all,” Rhett replied. “We’re here for our own personal pleasure.”

“You know the rules. Any funny business or if I catch even one of you trying to stir up trouble, you’re out.”

“Yeah, yeah, we know,” mocked Isaac.

The bouncer stepped to the side, permitting us to enter.

Fucking imbecile.

The guy didn’t have the slightest fucking clue just how much the wordtroublewas embedded in our DNA.

Chapter 28

Jace

OfcourseFatherwouldleave me alone to run the club all by myself on a fucking Saturday of all days. It was the club’s busiest night. While I was here with Finn holding shit down, my bastard father was with Crane, Alesi, and Sinclair, hatching up another bullshit scheme I wasn’t allowed to be part of for reasons still unknown. Even if I cared enough to take a bullet for that man—which I’d never do because I fucking despised him—it still wouldn’t be enough to earn his full trust. Nothing I did would ever be enough for anyone. Not even with Samara, my soulmate.

God, I fucking missed her. Ginger was picking her up from the academy tomorrow and the thought of facing her with the truth terrified me. With how I’d acted toward her the last time we spoke, I doubted she even wanted to see me. Ginger filled me in and told me Samara wouldn’t be here on the weekends anymore, not until she completed her final trial. Last I heard, she hadn’t. In a way, I suppose her absence was for the best. As long as she wasn’t around my father, she was safe. It was the one advantage that gave me a tiny speckle of relief despite it all.

“Shit,” Finn hissed beside me, his eyes bugging wide as he grabbed ahold of my arm. “The Ravagers are here.”

We were over by the main stage working on a speaker that randomly decided to take a shit on us and stopped working. Ginger was working the main stage tonight and without the speaker, we were fucked. We’d lose business if we couldn’t get the shit fixed in time before Ginger’s big solo dance. Not that I gave a shit, really, but my father would.

“Where?”

“Center table.”

I craned my head over in that direction, laying eyes on them instantly. All three of them were here. Rhett, Isaac, and Phantom. Rhett was chugging back a shot with an annoyed look while Isaac was busy trying to put the moves on one of the waitresses. And Phantom, well, he looked…constipated. His face was pinched, flaming red. His large eyes uncomfortably volleyed around his surroundings with heated disdain. If memory served me right, he was the most ornery one out of the trio.

“Is Ginger still in the locker room?” I asked Finn.

“I think so. Why?”

“Go get Jasper and have him assist with the speaker for now. I’ll be right back.”

I hadn’t filled Finn in about mine and Ginger’s plan yet. It’s not that I didn’t trust him, but he was still in the dark over my father's plan to auction her off at the next Harvest. She had less than two weeks left. He needed to know. But if we told him too soon, there was no telling what he’d do. It wouldn’t end well. That much I knew.

As Finn stormed away, I raced around the back of the stage and entered the locker room, calling out to Ginger.

“I’m in the back,” she hollered out at me.

“Are you decent?”

“Yeah, just finishing up my makeup.”

I raced over to the back end of the room and found her sitting in a chair in front of a large vanity mirror. She was alone. Her flaming red hair was curled, fluffed out to perfection. She finished applying her eyeliner before she turned to face me.

“Everything okay?” she asked, giving me a worried look through the mirror.

“The Ravagers are here.”

“Seriously?” She jumped to her feet then, approaching me, her bright blues wide. “What are you gonna do?”

“Exactly what we discussed,” I replied. “If there isanyway of saving you, I have to whip up some kind of deal with them. Problem is, I have to figure out a way to get them alone without any witnesses. If I approach them on my own, it’ll draw suspicion, and word will get back to my father about it. You have any ideas?”

Ginger bit her lip, thinking hard. After a moment of silence, she flashed me a big grin. “Actually, yeah, I think I do.”
