“Sky and Brian told me about it. Their disappearances are all over the news.”

My heart thudded hard. This was the first I’d heard of any kidnappings. If this happened in Outlaw territory, then that could only mean one thing. This was Damien Reyez’s doing. If my gut feeling was correct, then I knew exactlywhythese girls were taken.

Fuck. I had to get back to the dorm and warn the guys. Father too.

“Shit!” I shook my head and turned to Samara, watching as she felt around the front and back pockets of her leg-ripped jeans.

“What is it?”

“My phone is gone. Sky’s too. They must’ve fallen out somewhere during the fight.” She threw up her hands, squeezing her eyes closed as she sighed. “And what are we gonna do about this fucker here?”

“Don’t worry about the body. I’ll handle it. You find the phones and then I want you to head back to the academy and be with Sky. She needs you.”

She nodded, worry painting over her features.

Chapter 27

Phantom

“Remember,”Rhettsaidashe pulled up to the Gentlemen’s Club Saturday night, his voice firm. “We stick to the plan. No witnesses. And Isaac…”

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” he stiffly grumbled from the passenger seat. “No fucking the waitresses.”

I slid the clip inside my pistol and cocked it. I set it to the side then grabbed the ammo box next to me so I could load up a new clip for my spare.

“Fuck, Phantom. Do you really need that much firepower?”

“Better safe than sorry. You’d be wise to follow my example just in case this shit ends in a shootout.”

If it were up to me, I’d blow the whole fucking club off the map with Damien and his whole crew inside. Reyez had a lot of goddamn nerve sending one of his men in our territory to kidnap Sky. We should’ve been getting shit ready to start the trials, but after Rhett came back to the dorm the other night covered in blood and dropped that huge fucking bomb on us, we couldn’t put this off any longer.

The sound of a gun cocking pulled me out my head. As my gaze floated over to Isaac, he clicked on the safety to his weapon and tucked it under his belt. Rhett sighed, but eventually he opened the glove compartment to retrieve his weapon, checking his rounds before he safely tucked it away.

“It’s showtime, brothers,” Isaac spouted with a wicked grin, “Let’s do this shit.”

We got out the SUV and slammed the doors behind us, stalking over to the entrance where there was already a long line of people waiting to enter. Immediately I bristled up as a small crowd of people halted behind us. One of them grazed my arm, which had Isaac and Rhett rushing to jump in front of me as I whipped around, ready to clobber a motherfucker into the pavement.

“Don’t,” Rhett hissed with tight eyes. “You can’t lose your shit here. Breathe, Phantom. It was an accident.”

My chest heaved as I eyed the guy over Rhett’s shoulder. Isaac squeezed closer to Rhett, blocking my view.

“Block it out,” Isaac demanded. “It’s over, Phantom. He’s dead, remember? He can’t hurt you anymore.”

The reminder of that night flashed in my head. The knife in my hand. Him lying on the floor, his blood pooling around his body. Her dead body lying next to his.

Fuck.

I breathed in deeply, repeating the process several times until my heart eased back to normal.

“I’m okay.”

“You go in first,” spoke Rhett. “We’ll be behind you.”

I saw the look they’d given each other as I turned away. They were worried my attendance tonight was a bad idea. I wouldn’t lie. It was. Physical touch has always been a huge trigger of mine. I had no business being in an environment like this, or in any public gathering for that matter, not unless I had the appropriate amount of space I needed to seclude myself in what I liked to call my own personal bubble.

There was only one person I ever allowed to touch me and that was Cindy, my tattoo artist. She was like the sister I never would’ve dreamed of having. Aside from Father and my brothers, she knew everything about me. My trauma. My hardships. Literally everything. Matter of fact, I was due for another ink session soon. I’d been meaning to get what was left of the scars on my back covered.

The line moved along and when we reached the door, the bouncer eyed over me before offering me a sinister smirk.
