“Let this be a prime example of what’ll happen if you leave one of our own to die again,” Father growled from his seat. “Next time, I won’t fucking miss. Understood, Finn?”

“Y-Yes, Boss,” he rasped, tears leaking out the corners of his eyes as he continued to lie there, blinking up at the ceiling. “Understood.”

“Get this fucker out of my sight.”

Father got to his feet and stalked over to the built-in bar, unaware of the outraged look I was giving him. As Finn made to get up, I helped him to his feet. We fled from the office and in under a minute we were inside the men’s bathroom.

“Fuck, Finn.” I grabbed him and pulled him close, my grip and body stiff as I hugged him. “Are you okay?”

The fucking idiot. I’d beat the shit out of him right now if he hadn’t just miraculously dodged a bullet to the face. He was there that night, and he never breathed a word to me over it. Didn’t so much as warn me about this sick plan my father had stowed away under his sleeve.

But I would say this much though. Any previous doubts I had about where his true loyalty resided had just flown right out the window. Finn had a chance to save himself by telling the truth and instead he lied to protect Samara. He saved her life, albeit saving hers had almost cost him his. Finn had no idea how much his sacrifice meant to me. And for that, I’d forever be indebted to him.

“No, I’m not okay,” he whisper-sneered as he pulled away from me, recoiling back as he took in the wound and the blood pooling down the side of his face in the mirror.

“FUCK!”

He inched closer to his reflection. His hands shook as he snatched up some paper towels and soaked them down, his throat bobbing as he began cleaning his face. “My face…my beautiful face. And Ginger…God, she’s gonna be so pissed.”

“I think she’ll be more thankful over the fact that you’re alive.”

He blew out a breath, nodding. “Yeah, you’re right. I suppose it could’ve been worse.”

“What’s worse than death?”

“Working for your disgraceful ass father.”

I tilted my head to the side in a nod. Point taken.

“Look.” Finn blew out another heavy breath, wincing as he applied pressure to his injury. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about the kidnapping heist. I didn’t know it was going down until he gave me and Johnathon the order that same night.”

“It’s fine, Finn. It’s best we not discuss it here. For all we know someone could be listening outside the door.”

He bobbed his head, then spoke in a soft whisper, “You know where to meet me. We havea lotto talk about, so lets get the fuck out of here before he changes his mind and decides to off us both.”

Finn walked out first. I sighed, taking a moment to collect my thoughts before following him out.

He wasn’t wrong.

We did have a lot to talk about.

Chapter 32

Samara

Ithadn’tbeenquitea week since the world came crashing down on my shoulders, but the next four days had been complete Hell for me. I hardly slept. Every night I’d been wandering around campus minutes before curfew struck to ensure there weren’t any female students strolling around unaccompanied. I’d been keeping a closer eye on all the guards too.

There were more of them now—double if not triple the amount than there was when I’d first arrived here on campus. During the daytime I didn’t really notice them, but when nightfall struck, it was a completely different story.

It was the Ravagers doing. It had to be.

I wasn’t opposed to it. Before, I would’ve been, but now that I knew the truth, the more the fucking merrier.

But would it be enough, was the real question here.

I wish I could give a solid answer to that because honestly, given the circumstances, I hadn’t a fucking clue.

Sky was gone. Three days ago, I walked out of my room to see all of her things packed by the front door. She told me she called her parents and told them what happened. About her mental state and how she needed to leave and get herself together. It broke my heart watching her walk out the door, but I understood.
