I jumped to my feet then, my heart pounding as I slowly, cautiously, approached my brother from behind.

“Phantom…”

His chest violently heaved. I took another step, then another, my hands raised. Purple began shading over Rhett’s face as he struggled to breathe.

“Easy, bro, easy. Let him go.”

He shot me a wicked glower from over his shoulder that shook me to my core before his maddened gaze flitted back to Rhett, who was on the verge of passing out.

“Phantom, you’re fucking killing him. Fucking let him go already!”

He didn’t speak. I was seconds away from jumping his ass when finally, he released Rhett. He fell to the floor, coughing and sucking in sharp gulps of air.

Phantom just walked away, then proceeded to make a loud, overdramatic show of slamming the bedroom door shut behind him, leaving me and Rhett alone.

“Have you gone fucking mad?” I snipped as I rushed to his side, kneeling in front of him.

Rhett narrowed his teary eyes at me, the motion forming a perfect knot between his thick brows.

“Are you purposelytryingto piss him off?”

“No,” he rasped, coughing again as he rubbed his throat. “I was only doing what I thought was right. Weneedher, Isaac. She-She talked to me. She told me things.”

“What did she tell you?”

“A few months ago, an Outlaw killed her mother and shot Samara too. She showed me the scar on her leg. She knows all about Damien and the Outlaws because it happened in Damien’s territory. She told me more will come. That Sky’s kidnapping was only the beginning. I-I believe her Isaac. She deserves justice.”

I ground my teeth at the information. No wonder she was so recklessly insubordinate. It also better explained why she secretly paraded around with all those blades strapped and hidden under her clothes.

But I also knew my brother.

Samara revealing what happened to her mother was the real reason behind him wanting her in the trials. Rhett lost his mother too, albeit her battle was one that he nor our father had any control over. Cancer was unfortunately one of those things one could never get justice for.

But murder…

There was always justice when it came to murder.

“I hear you, okay? But you heard what Phantom said. He’s already made the list of candidates for the trials and he’s notifying the recruits tomorrow night at the party. There isn’t a single female on the list. Besides, youknowhow dangerous the trials are. There’s no guarantee she’ll pass all three.”

There was only three women who’d ever made it through to the end and that was several years ago, when my brothers and I were still learning the ropes. Only one was still alive today. Her name is Prim. She helped our buddy Sharkey run our warehouses.

Rhett sighed as he leaned back against the wall, lightly banging his head against it. He knew I was right.

“Then we take the decision away from him. He isn’t the leader of this crew and I’m tired of him acting like he is.”

My eyes widened. There was only one way that would work.

And as I watched Rhett jump to his feet and hop down in Phantom’s computer chair, powering up the laptop and printer, I knew there was no changing his mind.

Fuck…

Phantom was going to murder us both.
