Gerrick’s intel indicates Patrick is only using the second level but believes he will have men stationed in each room as lookouts on the third. All four rooms have large windows that would give Patrick’s men a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area. The second level has windows at the front and rear of the building, where the reception, massage rooms, bedrooms, and showers are housed.

It would make sense for there to be a guard on the front and rear doors as they are street level, but apart from them and the four he may have on the third floor, we have no idea how many men he will have with him.

That’s where it will get dangerous for Hadley.

Who am I kidding?

Patrick’s men should be more worried about Hadley than her of them.

“The rear exit door is off to the side,” Hadley continues. “It will be hidden because my father had a false wall built so as not to bring attention to it when the showers were installed for the johns along the back wall.”

Hadley’s plan once she enters through the basement is to let Jackson, Quinn, and Mark in from the rear of the building. Unless a guard is positioned at the door, which is highly possible, she shouldn’t encounter any resistance. Boxes usually shielded the entrance to the basement, but because it is close enough to the rear door, Hadley should be able to exit without being noticed.

Jackson and Mark will take out any guards they encounter on the third floor while Hadley and Quinn sweep the second. Antony, Liam, and I will be positioned near the front of the building. Once Jackson signals that it’s clear to enter, the three of us will take out whatever guards Patrick may have left lingering.

“Everyone clear on what we need to do?”

The sounds of clear and oorah sound off around me, and without any further commentary, I watch as everyone disperses to their positions. Creeping as close as we can in the dark of night, Ant, Liam, and I squat quietly, awaiting an update.

“I’m in,” Hadley’s whispered voice echoes in my ear.

The one thing I like about working with Cole Security is their state-of-the-art communication devices. Back in the day, Antony and I used to carry two-way radios. Not only are they bulky, but the crackling noise they sometimes let off would give away your position.

“Can you see anyone?” Ant quietly asks.

“Not yet,” she replies. “But I’m approaching the basement door now.”

Like myself, Hadley is a fan of silencers. She likes to move in silently to eliminate her target swiftly, particularly if multiple targets are in her way.

When a thud reverberates through my earpiece, I look over at Ant, who winces. The pained look on his face is one I see every time he fears one of his children is in danger.

“There was only one guarding the door, but he’s now dead. Jackson, Mark, and Quinn have joined me.”

The sound of his daughter-in-law’s voice calms him somewhat, and he refocuses on the plan. The hardest part about waiting is not knowing what is happening with the team inside. Each is a trained professional, yet it only takes one mistake to bring the whole operation down.

“The top floor is clear,” I hear Jackson say. “Something feels off; my two rooms are empty.”

“Mine are, too,” Mark then replies. “I agree with Jackson; something doesn’t feel right. There don’t appear to be any guards on this level.”

Either Patrick is traveling light, or we have been set up.

When the front door opens, and Patrick exits with Hadley, it’s clear it’s the latter.

“You may as well show yourselves!” Patrick yells into the silence.

Gesturing to Liam to stay back, Antony and I come out of the shadows and walk to where Patrick is standing.

“Surely you must have realized I fed Gerrick’s men false information,” he taunts.

The sinister smile on his face may make him feel like he has the upper hand, but I’m guessing he has forgotten what the woman he is pointing a gun at is capable of.

Where’s Quinn?

“Well, that’s evident now,” Antony spits.

“I’d rather not do this on the street, so how about the two of you join us inside?”

“I’m heading around the back,” Liam whispers through the earpiece.
