“Why would you be any help?”

“Well Akshole-”

“Akshole, really?” Akshole complains.

I continue like he didn’t interrupt me. “Because we dated, and I know him even if he doesn’t want me to. I have a feeling this is going to be a waiting game for you, and he’s most likely to show up here.”

Growls erupt around the table.

“You dated him?” Felix snarls.

“We will kill him,” Blaze vows.

Griffyn just grips the table. It looks like it’s about to break.

These guys are intense.

“He deserves to die. So it’s decided, I’ll stick around and help you on your case. I want him to meet his fate more than anyone.”

Our food arrives, cutting off Aksel’s protest.

Once the waitress walks away, Felix confirms, “It’s decided.”

Blaze

She’s my mate. And she’s in danger. There’s no way I was letting Aksel stop her from joining us. She needs protection, and I need to capture Ryan more than ever.

It’s not just my job anymore; it’s the need to protect my mate. Until then, I’m not worthy of her.

She didn’t seem to be all over Felix even after his declaration of being her mate. I can smell how unsure she is. She’s hesitating when it comes to acting on it.

As a vampire, she doesn’t sense the bond as immediately as I did. That gives me an opportunity to make her fall in love with me on her own, outside of the pressures of the bond. I want her to love me for me.

I need more time with her and to ensure she’s safe at all times.

“You should stay with us,” I say, attempting a smile. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t come off right. I’m not big on grinning.

She stares at me, her eyes wide in shock. “You want me to stay with you?”

“Absolutely not.” Aksel looks like a vessel in his forehead is about to burst.

I continue on like he didn’t speak. “You need protection, and we need your help. Felix is your mate, so this works out perfectly.”

I’ve been told it’s hard to argue with me. Something about the lack of emotions in my delivery. As Anna continues staring at me, I’m glad that seems to be true here too.

“Of course! This will give us more time together too!” Felix says, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. He flicks a glance over to me, seeming shocked I suggested it.

Griffyn doesn’t say anything, but I can smell hope on him. Why he’s hopeful, I couldn’t say.

Aksel, on the other hand, is radiating anger. Normally, I side with him. I think he’s a great leader and makes clearheaded decisions, but this time, I can’t. My mate comes first, always, from now on. My dedication to Aksel and the team is second.

“She can’t stay with us.”

Anna latches onto it. “Akshole is right. I’m staying right where I am.”

The dark fae’s fist tightens at the nickname, but really he should be happy she agrees with him.
