“Is it supernatural?” I ask. Maybe it’s obvious to them, but he could be hanging around humans to stay under the radar.

“It’s supernatural. Some rounds, you can use extra powers, and in others, you have to fight with only your bodies,” Blaze tells me.

“Wouldn’t it make it hard to fight a shifter since they’re naturally stronger?” I ask.

Blaze nods. “Yes, that’s why most others will do the rounds with powers, but some like to prove they can go against a shifter and win.”

I can imagine that makes you look tough.

“Do we know when the next event is?” Felix asks.

He gets back to chopping, reminding me that I have meat on the stove. I turn around and mix it up. Luckily, none of it burned.

“I can find out,” Blaze says.

He pulls out his phone, clicking away at it before just waiting. There’s a soft ding before he says, “It’s tonight.”

Who does he know that can tell him that?

“Are we going tonight, then?” Griffyn asks.

Aksel tilts his head back and takes a deep breath. “We can’t let this opportunity pass. Who knows when the next event will be. We are lucky there’s one tonight.”

“Too lucky,” Blaze grunts.

“Yes, this screams trap,” Felix says.

I agree, but I know we are still going. We need something to work with. They thought I was going to be the lead that they needed. While I can provide a lot more information, we still have no idea where Ryan could be.

“Yes, it does. Which means we are being extremely cautious. Anna, you’re staying here with Felix,” Aksel says.

Does he actually care about my well-being? Surely not. He probably just wants an excuse to be without me.

“No. I’m not.”

Felix turns to look at me with soft eyes. “It won’t be so bad. You and I will have fun!”

“It’s not that I don’t want to spend time with you, Felix. It’s that you need me there. I have the best chance of spotting Ryan, even if he’s using a spell to change his face. He’s done it before. You could be talking to him and have no idea. You need me.”

Felix doesn’t look happy but nods anyway. I have a feeling he has a lot to say but is holding back.

I look at the others. Blaze’s face is the same, perpetually stern. Griffyn has his eyes closed as he lies on the couch, and Aksel glares at me.

“You know I’m right, so just say I’m right and move on to the planning,” I say.

If it’s possible, Aksel’s body stiffens further. His eyes narrow until I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to see the dual colors, no matter how close I was.

“Can you protect yourself?” Blaze asks.

“Yes, I can. I have self-defense and combat training. I can take care of myself,” I say.

“Fine. If you want to put yourself at risk and come, then that’s your choice,” Aksel grits out.

“Great!” I smile wide before turning around and pulling the meat off the stove. “Dinner is ready! We can plan while we eat.”

I make myself a plate, leaving the guys to make their own.
