The crowd is getting amped up, watching Blaze annihilate The Predator. The energy is charged.

I tear my eyes away from Blaze to watch the crowd around me. There’s still no sign of Ryan or anyone who seems similar.

Aksel

Felix and I are walking around the edge of the crowd, paying attention to everyone here. I’ve seen at least three guys on our wanted list, but they’re too small to risk blowing our cover for. I will be letting the Director know once we get home.

“Do you think they’re doing okay?” Felix asks for the millionth time. He blocks the comm piece in his ear so they can’t hear him.

“We can hear everything happening, so it’s a good bet they are,” I respond.

It’s been silent since we heard them say goodbye to Blaze and Griffyn explained the details of the round. We can hear background noise around them but nothing else.

“I don’t like being apart from her,” Felix whines as he tugs at his hair. He’s going to catch the wrong person’s attention if he doesn’t knock it off.

I block my own comm before hissing, “Get it together. I’ve never seen you like this.”

“I’ve never had a mate before.”

I hate that I know what he fucking means. Even if I can’t have her and deny that she’s mine, my entire body pulls me toward her. My thoughts won’t shut up about making sure she’s safe and happy. But I’m not an idiot like Felix. She’s with Griffyn, and Blaze is nearby. She’s a vampire who could handle most supernaturals on her own. There is no reason to worry. It’s stupid mate instincts.

I don’t explain any of that to Felix. He doesn’t know Anna is my fated mate, and I won’t be telling him or anyone. It’s better a secret I take to the fucking grave.

“We could walk that way and see them?” His voice is hopeful, and while my own gut wants me there too, we can’t.

“We are here for a mission. They have their area covered, and we need to focus on ours.” I uncover my comm so that this conversation is no longer private. “Do you see anything?”

“Nothing,” Griffyn says.

“Us either,” Felix says, and because he can’t help himself, he adds, “Anna?”

“No, but it’s really packed down here. Hopefully, when we get Blaze back and can move around more, we will,” Her voice is soft, like she’s speaking under her breath.

I appreciate that she’s trying not to be obvious by talking to herself.

There’s movement over by the door, someone shoving their way in and making a scene. He starts throwing punches as soon as he’s inside. He’s pushing people and causing fights around him. The atmosphere is charged and full of testosterone. Soon this entire side of the room is fighting.

“Something’s going on,” Felix says.

“What is it?” Blaze asks. I hear him grunt a second later.

“Someone came in and started fights all around him. It seems to be his goal. Everyone needs to watch out,” I tell them.

It’s spreading through the room like wildfire.

Someone crashes into Felix, sending them both to the ground. The guy rears his fist, but I throw him off Felix before he has the chance. He immediately engages with the next person he sees.

I feel the fire in my soul, the urge to fight. I want to pummel someone for daring to hurt my teammate. Destroy anyone who is putting my mate in danger right now.

“Do you feel that?” I ask.

The gold in Felix’s eyes is glowing. His snow leopard is showing. He’s also being affected by whatever is happening.

“Like I want to fight or fuck? Yeah, I feel it,” Griffyn’s voice is strained.

I only feel like I want to fight, which means something else is happening to him.
