“I’d have to be invited,” I said.

“Can you send someone else?”

I took a deep breath. “If I were you, I’d involve the law. I know what I saw.”

She held her chin, and her hand trembled slightly. It was the most bothered I’d seen her. Even more so than after hearing of Savanah’s blackmail. “No. I can’t.”

Her boyfriend joined us. “What can’t you do?”

Her face softened. “Nothing. It’s okay. Just talking about my daughter’s predicament, which with the help of Carson, we are getting a handle on.”

I left the whole Salon Soir scene alone. I could see it was too much for her, and I even felt a little guilty for bringing it up. It did concern me, however. I wished I could tell Declan, but being sworn to secrecy, I prided myself on being a man of my word.

Chapter 17

Savanah

Atleastmytripto Paris had a nice ending. It took little to seduce Carson into my bed. All I did was lock the door, hide the key, and walk around naked, for him to change from bodyguard to voracious lover.

We even extended our trip by two days, taking in the sights with me on the back of a hired scooter, rubbing against his manly body. There was something about being in love in Paris that made me experience that elegant city for the first time, despite numerous visits.

I even forgot about Bram, who hadn’t even texted me, which filled me with the hope he’d finally moved on to his next victim.

Sadly, that was short-lived because I’d only just arrived back at Merivale when he called—or I should say harassed—me. He wanted to discuss something and insisted we meet in London and not talk about it over the phone, which was always my preference.

With a heavy heart, I headed down to see my mother, before leaving for London, to ask about the lawsuit involving that tape, when I heard Manon yelling, “Stay out of it. It’s got nothing to do with you.”

Instead of interrupting them, I positioned myself by the door.

“Yes, it does,” my mother responded. “While you live here, you must behave in a dignified manner, as is expected of a Lovechilde.”

“Oh, really? Well then, to do that, I need lots of money.”

“You have a credit card. The limit has been increased twice.”

“It’s not enough. That’s why I plan to marry money. And Rey’s a billionaire. He’ll give me everything and more.”

“He’s not the marrying kind.”

“I’m sure I can change that.”

Whether Manon was still a virgin remained a mystery. She certainly didn’t act like one. But she was foremost ambitious, with wealth being her endgame.

“Please tell me you haven’t slept with him.” Sounding distressed, my mother’s rare display of emotion made me flinch.

“And what if I have? Would that make you jealous?”

“Why are you like this?”

Good question.

“I’m just going for what I can get. You, of all people, Grandmother, should understand.”

“Tell me what’s happening at the back of the casino.”

“It’s just a private club, nothing else.”

“Are there young girls in there? Being paraded?”
