“We can talk this out.” He wasn’t going to leave.

“Go home.” The line went dead.

He rested his forehead against the front door. He needed to get her to open the door. How could he fix this? He glanced at his phone. Maybe there was another way to get past the front door and give Amber the support she needed.

Amber rubbedher chest and her temple. Of course, both hurt. She’d been crying almost non-stop since she got home. Without the energy to move, she still sat slumped against the front door. She should have expected Gavin to show up. The man didn’t understand.

She should go change. The most she’d done when she got home was kick her shoes off. She stood as the front door opened. Her eyes widened when Gavin marched in holding a bag in his hand.

“Thanks,” he stated over his shoulder, closed the door, and locked it.

“How the hell did you get in here?”

“Ruby.” He stared at her. “I get you don’t want to talk to me, but you never gave me the chance to respond before you left the restaurant. If this is going to be anywhere close to fair, you should at least listen to what I have to say. Can we sit down and talk about this?”

She shook her head.

“Now, you’re being stubborn, and you know that doesn’t work with me. Do you want to use your safe word, or do we do this my way?”

Amber stayed silent. Maybe he would get the hint.

“Fine. We’ll do this my way.”

She squealed as Gavin swept her off her feet and over his shoulder. “Put me down!” she yelled.

“No.” He made his way toward her bedroom.

“Stop.” She pounded her fists on his back, and he slapped her ass. Heat filled her. This wasn’t fair. She heard the bag drop on the table next to her bed, then the sound of a zipper. She couldn’t see anything. The next thing, she was in the air as he tossed her on the bed.

“Get out.”

“Not happening until we talk.” He held up his hand.

“Handcuffs?”

“Are you safewording out?”

When she didn’t answer, he snapped the first one on her wrist and threaded them though the headboard before snapping the other one. She tugged at the fur lined cuffs. She was trapped.

“This won’t solve anything.”

“Maybe not.” He grabbed the chair from across the room and positioned it where he could see her, but not close enough for her to kick him. Coward.

“Enough. Take these cuffs off.”

“No.”

His one word answers caused her to pull at the cuffs and wiggle her body.

“You can’t get free.”

Gavin watched Amber struggle. He had to fight not to release her, but they needed to talk, and it was obvious she wasn’t going to give him the chance. When she didn’t safeword out, even after he showed her the handcuffs, his dominant side roared to life.

“I want an explanation for why you ran tonight.”
