“Ethan, what exactly did this man say to you? Hey, you there. Are you a Granger?” Tawny asked.

She’d just joined Alex, Liam, Mason, Zach, and Ethan in the living room. Since Mason had done a sweep of the house for bugs and found none, she felt comfortable sharing information.

“Close,” Ethan said. “He knew my name. Yes, my uniform has my name on the shirt pocket, but I was squatting down next to Zach’s truck, trying to figure out if someone had tampered with it. He couldn’t have seen it.”

“I take it he was a human?” Alex asked.

“I didn’t sense a werewolf signature.”

“Did he sound educated?” Zach asked. “The man who shot me spoke clearly. This will sound odd, but his tone was upper class.”

Ethan shrugged. “All I heard was my name. When I moved out from the front of your truck, I focused on the gun. I wasn’t really paying much attention to anything else.”

Tawny was sitting next to her cousin on the sofa and clasped his arm and squeezed. “That must have been scary.”

“Kind of. A bullet would have hurt like hell, but I would have healed, assuming he didn’t hit my heart.”

“All we have to do is find a limping, fairly tall, young human,” Liam said.

“Yeah.”Good luck with that.

“If we understood their motivation, we might be more successful in stopping them,” Zach said. “Is their goal to eradicate all werewolves or just the Grangers?”

“Have any of you heard of any other deaths in town?” she asked the group.

They all shook their heads.

Mason pulled out his phone. “This phone is clean. Let me call Dad and ask him, though I imagine he would have mentioned if another werewolf had been killed.”

Mason had a short conversation with their father. After he disconnected, he pocketed his phone. “No werewolves died. It seems as if they might only be targeting Grangers.”

“The carving on my back would imply that, but the question is whether they intend to kill all male Grangers. There are a lot of us.”

“Don’t forget about the Westons. They might live a few towns over, but they are Uncle Augustine’s family. Let’s hope they don’t learn they are related to us,” Tawny said.

Alex looked over at Liam, who nodded. “If nothing else, we need to ramp up your family’s training regimen.”

Mason groaned, and they all chuckled. “If I have to, I will. I can see there is a need.”

“Good,” Alex said.

“How do we go about looking for these people?” Tawny asked. “We can’t wait until more Grangers are attacked.”

“Didn’t you say that Dad was going to trace Zach’s cell to see who called him the day he was shot?”

“Yes. If he learned anything, he would have told us already,” she said.

Mason finished off the last of the chicken parmesan he’d brought. “We could ask Will to give out some disinformation. He has access to a lot of humans.”

“What kind of disinformation?” Liam asked.

“Maybe he could say a bunch of the Grangers are going to have a meeting somewhere and see who shows up.” Ethan raised his eyebrows.

“That could be dangerous,” she said.

“I agree with Tawny. Don’t have him say anything yet. We need at least another few days to train your family,” Liam said. “We’ll also need more space than we have downstairs, so we’ll have to continue using your Uncle Josh’s barn.”

“And then what exactly?” Ethan asked.
