"I told you, she's been…."

Deer Runner and Lone Wolf grabbed the men, tired of their nonsense, and took them to the barn, they tied them up hanging them from a rafter. They hung by the feet, upside down. "Where is she?"

"I don't know, I tell you." Liam tried his best to get loose, but it was no use.

"You lie. You beat her, and now she is gone. Did you kill her?" Lone Wolf was furious, so much so his body shook as he pulled Liam up to look him in the eye.

"Of course not. Why would I….?"

"If you do not tell us where she is we will cut your fingers off, one by one." Deer Runner promised, wielding his knife in front of their faces.

"You red bastards, I won't tell you nothing."

Deer Runner cut his thumb off and Liam was bleeding heavily. He yelled and screamed. "I'll kill you, you red devil." He declared.

Burt cried out, "We dumped her on the prairie."

"Where?" Lone Wolf came up to him and waited for his answer.

"About twenty miles south of here." Burt cried.

"Fool, why did you open your mouth?" Liam shouted at him.

"Because I don't want to lose my fingers for her."

Lone Wolf looked at Liam. "For beating her you will lose all your fingers. If she is dead, I will come back and kill you."

"What about me?" Burt asked, "I didn't do nothing."

"Exactly, you could have helped her, but you didn't."

Lone Wolf cut Liam's fingers off while Deer Runner cut Burt's. They both screamed from the pain. They left them hanging there, bleeding.

Together Lone Wolf and Deer Runner tracked the wagon.

It took time and Lone Wolf was worried that anything could happen to her in the wilds.

When he spotted an object in the distance, he saw it move. He stared and finally made her out. She was pulling her body against the ground, trying to crawl, but merely dragging her body. He rushed up to her and picked her up in his arms.

"Thank the Creator, you are not dead," he whispered as he kissed her.

She opened her one good eye and tried to smile, "You came for me."

"Yes, I came…and Deer Runner, and Black Feather waits for your return to our village." He smiled.

But as he picked her up, he felt the blood from her back, it had crusted over, and he knew she'd been whipped badly.

"D-did you kill Liam?" She barely managed to ask.

"No, but he will wish he was dead now."

"Why?"

"We cut their fingers off," Deer Runner said.

Hannah gasped, "All of them?"

"All of them," Lone Wolf assured her. "For beating you."
