"I'm just a freshman, but I'm in the STEM program at Rothford."

Dimitri immediately retrieves a card from the pocket of his jacket and hands it to me. “Rothford doesn’t accept idiots. Nor does Camden.”

“Oh, I was just joking.” I don’t want him to indulge me. “I live in California."

"A lot of my staff works remotely these days. We're expanding fast. If you're any good, I'll consider your qualifications."

I like that I get the feeling that he'll completely dismiss it if I'm not up to his standards.

Camden walks back in, followed by a small crowd. I notice Rhys, Roman, Nate, and to my irritation, Kim, too. I think I vaguely recognize the rest of the group from the wedding.

"What did I miss?" Camden asks as he reaches us.

His friends are on his tail, though to my relief, Kim joins the actress’s booth rather than coming along. Our table's not suitable for more than four, but they don't hesitate to drag a sofa close. No one seem to mind they’re messing with the furniture.

"Nothing much. We're just getting to know each other," Dimitri says. "How did your errand go?"

"Well. Morgan's booked at midnight."

Something moves in my chest. I can't tell if the way my heart gallops is due to anticipation or fear.

Camden sits at my side this time and strokes my hand. "You don't have to do it. No one's forcing you."

Maybe that's the problem. If Camden told me I had to, I wouldn't think about it, I'd just do it. Now my wheels are turning, and uncertainty is kindling my fear.

"Could you?" I murmur faintly.

"Hm?"

"Could you force me?"

ChapterSeventy-Two

She tries to whisper, but I'm sure we all hear her. I think every guy around the table is suddenly hard as steel. I smirk, smug as fuck. That's right, buddies. She's mine. All mine. They can get their own.

“Of course, princess. After all, I’ve only had you since six o’clock, and you’re supposed to be mine for twenty-four hours. It’s only right that I get you until six Saturday.”

I’m talking out of my ass. While vaguely logical, the reasoning is moot, as she never agreed to it ahead of time. But shewantsme in charge, so she nods.

“What happened after we left the wedding?” I turn to Nate.

“There was a lot of screaming, mostly. Mentions of lawyers. The old man is talking about have the marriage annulled.”

Morgan relaxes as the conversation flows effortlessly. Dimitri might be older than the rest of us, but I think he secretly enjoys looking into our simple world, one without as many responsibilities as those resting on his shoulders. His father got himself killed when he was barely twenty, and he had to take over an empire. He’s never had our freedom.

I feel her tense again when four men walk in, armed with a ladder anda box of equipment. She knows they’re here for her swing. Morgan checks out of the conversation, her eyes fixed on the workers.

I catch Rhys and Roman’s eye. “You mind if we switch places?”

They’re quick to get up from the couch without asking for an explanation. They likely guessed my intent.

I get to my feet, tilting my head toward the sofa. “Come.”

“Why?” my favorite brat questions.

With her instinct to push, and her inclination for submission, I’ll never get tired of her.

“Because I said so, girl Friday.”
