I smile. It’s about time Rebecca let her hair down and had some fun with someone.

Generally speaking, Rebecca is a relationship girl. She doesn’t go to clubs to pick up random men and she only dates guys she thinks are in a place where they are ready for something serious. In other words, she’s my polar opposite. I’m not interested in a relationship. I’m at a point where I’m finally making a name for myself in my career, and I don’t want anything getting in the way of that. That doesn’t mean I’m against a hook up if a really, really, really hot guy shows up, but that scenario is as rare as a hen’s tooth.

I move through the crowd and touch Rebecca on the shoulder. She looks around and grins when she sees me and then she hugs me tightly.

“Summer,” she shouts excitedly. “This is Mark.”

The blonde guy gives me a smile and I smile back and do a little wave.

“Listen, I'm going to take off before the line for a cab gets too ridiculous,” I say.

“Oh,” Rebecca mouth.

She looks deflated looking between me and Mark and I realize she thinks I’m expecting her to come with me. I’m expecting no such thing. The only reason I told her instead of just sneaking off is because I don’t want her to worry and spend any time looking for me after I’ve gone. I would be so mad if she did that to me so I won’t do it to her.

Not that getting home is ever a problem for Rebecca. She lives in an apartment above a deli on the next block over from the club. She can literally fall over twice outside of the club and she’s as good as home.

I lean towards her and whisper. “Hey, you don’t have to come with me. I’ll be all right.”

“Really?” she asks.

“Really,” I confirm. “It’s not like we’re going in the same direction even if we leave together, is it?”

Rebecca’s grin is back, and she hugs me again.

“Thank you,” she says in my ear and then she releases me. “See you soon?”

“Yeah definitely,” I say. I wink at her. “Enjoy the rest of your night.”

“Oh, I will,” she laughs.

I give her upper arm a final squeeze and then I give Mark another little wave and head for the exit. The cool night air is refreshing for about a minute and then it makes goosebumps appear on my arms and legs. I start to regret the short dress I’m wearing as I head to the curb to hail a cab.

I reach the line and join it. It’s not too bad yet but I know I got here just in time before the massive influx of people at closing time descend on the line at once. I cross my arms and rub my upper arms with the opposite hands. It warms me slightly but not enough to stop me from stamping my feet up and down on the ground.

“Chilly?” an amused sounding male voice asks from behind me.

I half-turn ready to give a cheeky retort, but I find myself speechless when I see the owner of the voice. The voice is sexy – low and husky and I’m expecting someone who is pretty, good looking. What I’m not expecting is the most gorgeous man I have ever seen in my life outside of a movie screen. He’s tall, around six feet I’m guessing, and his body is lean and in a nice proportion. No like one of those beefy bodybuilder types but he’s no slouch and I can see the defined muscles of his arms beneath his white t-shirt sleeves. I also see what looks like a tattoo of a dragon’s head poking out of one sleeve.

I look up at his face for the second time. The first time in my life, I was so taken aback by how good looking a man was, I shamelessly and openly drink him in. He must be a bit older than me – maybe in his mid-thirties to my twenty-nine. His silky black hair is brushed across his forehead and I have to stop myself from reaching out and running my hand through it. He has a strong jawline and well-defined cheekbones that makes him look almost like a Roman statue.

But all that pales into insignificance when I look into his eyes. They are, I suppose, gray, although to me, in the light of the streetlamp, they look silvery and shine like the precious metal. As I stare into those truly mesmerizing eyes, he looks back into mine and I see his irises begin to dilate, and I know he’s reacting to me.

Whoa! Somehow, this gorgeous man is attracted to me! And his eyes are betraying his lust for me.

“Go on, speak. I promise I won’t bite,” he drawls with a wolfish smile.

His smile widens and shows a row of straight, white teeth. I stare at the tiny dimple that appear on his right cheek. To my amazement I feel myself getting wet just looking at him. I give my head a small shake as I remember – I’m being rude. He asked me a question and I can’t find the words to answer it.

It wasn’t even a difficult question. He only asked me if I’m chilly. The answer is: Yes, I was until I looked into his eyes and heat consumed my body. But I’m not about to say that to him so instead I just give him a half nod.

“I’d give you my jacket but as you can see, I don’t have one,” he says with an apologetic smile.

“It’s okay. You probably wore the fitting T-shirt for the same reason I wore a mini dress,” I croak.

He laughs at that, and I feel myself relaxing. Despite the heat between us, he seems like a pretty chilled out guy.

“I don’t remember seeing you in Radium,” he says. “And I’m damn sure wouldn’t have forgotten you if I had.”
