Not a lie. Kirill needs to realize who the boss is in this scenario. Jace’s tight expression conveys his lack of agreement. Especially since he’ll look like a dumbass having to change the arrangements.

“Yes sir.”

The tone is even and noncommittal. He’s a good actor because I know he’s furious as hell. “Speak your mind.”

“He’ll use it to his advantage if you’re distracted.”

A little too quick of an answer for my gut. Instinct tells me we’re going to be at an impasse soon if he doesn’t stop questioning me. “Him or you?”

Seconds pass. His face is blank, yet the wheels turn. That’s fine. I’ll wait him out.

“Trust me to meet with him tonight. I can speak on your behalf.”

The surprise is on me this time. I expected him to lecture me about letting a woman divert my attention, not try to undermine me. Enemies are often closer than you realize.

His expression remains passive, yet his breathing picks up slightly. An almost imperceptible tell that he’s nervous.

I slowly nod as if considering his request rather than grab my gun and put a slug between his eyes. Motherfucker.

He almost had me. That bullshit about suspecting Kirill sounded legit. Just enough information to appear authentic without coming on too strong. Except that he was trying to sidetrack me with concerns about Addie instead of himself.

I play his game. Getting him and Kirill in one place will make it easy to eliminate them together. “Sure. Don’t make any deals. Just hear him out and report back.”

I meet his gaze with steel conviction. “With your recommendation of course.”

A satisfied smirk answers me. He thinks he’s outsmarted me.

I’m just as confident in my stare back at him. Give him one last feeling of gratification before I destroy him.

I turn back to my laptop. While Chels’s attention fixates on the screen, Addie seems to stare at nothing. I’d bet money she’s contemplating our evening. Good thing I have no doubts and will ensure she doesn’t either by morning.

Two more hours gives me just enough time to set up their execution. I’m still grinning as I pick up my phone. Itisgoing to be a great night.

Addie

“Do you like the purple?”

Chelsea lifts one hanger and then the other. Elegant dresses hang from both of them.

“Or the blue?”

She’s a romantic at heart while I’m jaded. Titan’s turned me into a pessimist again. The fear of being disappointed overwhelms my desire to wear her wonderful gowns. “Thank you but I think I’m going to go more casual.”

Or most likely—not at all. I glance down at my tee shirt and shorts. Perfect for a night in alone.

A frown extinguishes her excitement, and she shakes her head. “But he’s taking you someplace fancy. Don’t you want to dress up?”

More than anything. “If we even go.”

As soon as the words leave my mouth, I regret them. It’s unfair to Chelsea to put her in the middle of Titan and my problems. Although she doesn’t seem distraught when her face lights up and she giggles.

“What rubbish!” Her hands clap together. “That means you’re totally wrong.”

She frowns and tilts her head. “I mean I think it does. I really need to start taking my language classes.”

Deep in her British thoughts, she wanders to her bed and picks up her phone. The search will keep her busy for a while. My stomach swirls, uncertain if I should wait or see if Titan is really going to show up.

With Chelsea preoccupied in her scrolling, and Pete sacked out on her bed. I guess it doesn’t hurt to check. I open the door and glance down the hallway.
