After meeting with Xander to update him on the pro-Dom thing, he should have just called the movers instead of asking Erik and Quinn to move his one wall of monitors and computers to Laurent Industries.

But part of him didn’t want to leave his buddies. They’d been through a lot together, and this seemed like the end of the Bandit Brothers.

Never the end, he corrected himself, just a transformation.

They were going to be working in different places, that’s all.

Though Erik and Quinn are lucky if they’ll work at all.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE – MULBERRY

“Love the décor!” Mulberry clutched Nick’s arm as he led her to the table.

The restaurant’s interior was all creams and light wood floors, with open ceilings above and soft lighting, giving the ample space a clean, modern feel.

Livia Laurent, as usual, looked like she walked off a magazine fashion shoot. Today she wore a smart cream-coloured skirt suit with a pale pink shirt underneath, her gold necklaces dangling, the diamonds in her ears sparking.

Her blond highlighted hair was perfectly swept to her shoulders just right.

“Nick! I heard you moved into the office.” Livia kissed-kissed her son’s cheeks and then did the same to Mulberry. “Sit, sit.”

“Yeah, Maman, I brought my favourite machines from home.”

Livia raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow and raised her wineglass to Nick.

After the server came over and took their drink and app order, Livia turned her gaze to Mulberry.

“So, what’s new to you two? Anything exciting?”

Mulberry blushed. His family’s hints at commitment were kind of endearing and grating.

“No, Maman. You saw Henri’s interview. I think that’s enough excitement for a week.” Nick’s curls bounced as she shook his head.

She loved running her hands through those curls instead of when he slicked them back with gel. It gave him a friendlier cast, like he could be mistaken for a librarian. Though his eyes constantly scanned, the restaurant reminded her there was nothing casual about how he took his bodyguarding duties.

Livia waved a hand in the air. “I don’t mean work, darling. I mean, have you two booked a weekend away?”

“Maman, you’re incorrigible,” Nick said.

Mulberry smiled. She enjoyed being in the company of Nick’s family.

So far, it was the only people she had met who didn’t ask her for her mother’s autograph or if she knew this famous director or an agent.

She frowned, realizing how relaxed she felt being his girlfriend.

The server returned with their orders, and Mulberry focused on eating the breaded…whatever was on her plate.

His family might have its flaws, but they were so entrenched in their world that they didn’t need to claw their way into the spotlight of hers.

Nick’s hand brushed hers as he gave her a reassuring smile. She bit her lip, glancing across the table, where a cluster of women was trying not to look over at them. They kept glancing and looking away and giggling.

The sex with Nick was fun.

His reaction to her preferences, her desire to be watched, was unexpected, and she felt so free in telling him.

But it made her mind flip into expectations that couldn’t happen.

Nick told her time and time again that he was a player.
