Mulberry placed her hand on top of his. “Work for your father?”

“No. I haven’t wanted to do that, but it’s the easiest path. I’m lucky to have them as my parents, even if I haven’t always gotten along with Henri, but now that he sees my talent, it’s easier. I’ve been feeling burnt out lately working for Axis Management, tired and old.”

“Yes, grandpa, you’re ancient,” Mulberry laughed.

“Careful young whippersnapper, or I’ll put you over my knee.”

“Promises, promises.”

“I’ll put you over my knee while you’re bound, gagged. On stage at Club Bandit, and I’ll spank you with everyone watching.”

“Yes, please,” she whispered.

He squeezed her hand, pulling her up from her chair. She went with his motion until she was tumbled into his lap.

“There, that’s better” he nuzzled her neck, his scruff rough and delicious on her skin.

“We’re going to have to order more breakfast.”

His lips found hers, and she opened, encouraging his tongue to go deeper.

She couldn’t get enough of him, his taste, his passion, and all of him.

Her phone buzzed. “Guess I better get that.”

“If you say so,” Nick nibbled her ear.

“Yes, I do” she kissed him hard, then slipped off his lap, grabbed her phone and read the text.

Want to come hang out with me this afternoon? I’m not on set and can use a break.

“Emma wants to hang out. She’s not filming today.”

“Does she know you’re here?”

“No, I’ll surprise her. Is it okay if I say, ‘yes?’?”

“Of course. I’ll quickly check in with my father and see if there is more info on that woman from the restaurant. I’ll make sure there is a team from Stone Security.”

Mulberry’s stomach rolled. For a few hours, she was able to forget about it.

But it came crashing down on her.

“Okay,” she said. She texted Emma: I’m in the same hotel as you! Lots to tell you! I’ll meet you in twenty minutes.

The return text pinged a moment later, Can’t wait.

“Emma needs a break from doing actor things,” Mulberry said.

“Why don’t you act anymore?”

“I told you, I never wanted to act. I don’t like people looking at me in that way.”

“But you went for an audition the week you were taken.” She pushed her hair back behind her ears and took a breath. It was still hard to talk about, but his presence made it easier.

“Sheldon forced Emma to go to the audition even though she doesn’t want to act. I went with her for morale support and got the role. But I never took it because of what happened.”

“Did it bother you, losing out on the role?”
