Nick tried not to race out the door but walked calmly. They didn’t want the staff to know what they were up to.

“This is going to be nice and simple, " Logan said, grabbing the fire escape once they were outside.

“Sure.” His blood rushed through his veins.

Logan swung his giant frame up the steps, as light as a cat.

He followed, not as smoothly but got the job done.

The cold railing under his fingers focused his attention.

They climbed quietly as possible with the metal stairs shaking under them.

“Man, I don’t know if this will hold us both,” Logan said.

A few more steps, and they reached the balcony.

“I’m on it” Nick stepped in front of Logan, hopped to the landing of the balcony, then searched for a way for the door to open. It was locked from the inside.

He took out his phone and called Mulberry.

“Nick? They’re cracking the door open, and I hear shouting. I’m so scared.”

“Hang on. I’m right outside the bedroom window. Can you come and let me in?”

“Yes,” Mulberry hung up.

“Nice and simple. I like it,” Logan commented.

Nick didn’t share his calm. He needed Mulberry in his arms.

And a second later, she was there, unlocking the door, and his arms were around her He was barely in the room when the door was busted open, wood and plaster cracking.

“Let’s see what that noise is about,” Logan said.

“Nick, I don’t know what this means, who these people are. Emma said they are stuntmen, but why are they after me?”

“We’ll figure it out. Where’s Emma?”

“She’s curled up in the bathtub.”

“Stay there with her. We’ll be right back.”

Running towards the shouting, Logan, right behind him, Nick made it to the front door to see Quinn pinning the man from the security feed against the wall.

River sat on the back of another man, holding him down.

Quinn held the woman’s arm, looking very uncomfortable, and Erik was swinging at two more bulking guys.

Nick jumped over to help.

“These fuckers don’t quit,” Erik grumbled.

Nick threw a punch as a hulking man came towards him. The man slipped and fell.

Sometimes you get lucky.

He couldn’t make sense of the men, the broken door, or the woman Quinn was holding. What the fuck was happening here?
