“Don’t worry about it. Walk out with me?”

“Of course,” Mulberry waved at Xander.

Grace hummed, something she did when she was nervous.

Mulberry sighed. She hated that her mom was on edge.

Grace held the door for her to the parking lot.

Mulberry glanced behind her. She knew Nick and the security people were close by, but she was happy to be alone with her mom.

“Are you mad at me?”

“Never,” Grace smiled.

They stood in the quiet parking lot, Grace’s expression making her nervous.

“Mom?”

“I know you don’t want to act, but there is a part to play Emma’s character’s best friend in the show, and I wanted you to think about it.”

Mulberry shook her head. “Nope.”

Grace laughed. “Okay, I had to try.”

“Ready, guys,” Grace said, turning to Finn and Janette.

“I’ll call you later,” Mulberry called.

“Take care of her, Nick.”

“I plan to” Nick’s grip landed on her arm, his intense glaze making her squirm.

“You’re going to behave from now on, right ma belle?”

“No promises,” Mulberry said.

She heard him sigh, but what did he want? How he treated her was warring with her head, and she wasn’t sorry she made his job more difficult.

Okay, she was sorry a little. But he didn’t have to know that.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN – NICK

Nick’s doorbell buzzed.

“Need anything, like air?” Nick asked as he passed the couch that Mulberry was sprawled on, wrapped in a blanket.

“I’m good.” The words landed like shards of glass.

After double-checking that it was Erik, he opened the door.

“Hey, thanks for stopping by.”

“The least I could do,” Erik nodded. “Hey, Mulberry.”

Mulberry barely glanced at them as they walked by.

Nick sighed as he let his friend into the tech room.
