Erik’s stare left no room to argue.

“Thanks, Erik.”

“Don’t mention it,” he settled back in his chair, bringing up last night’s hockey game on his phone.

Nick strolled into the living room, irritated by Mulberry’s feet hanging over the arm of the couch. He lifted her feet and pulled her up.

“Hey!”

“Go put on jeans and a sweater. I want to take you somewhere.”

“Don’t I get a say?”

“Nope. Get going.”

Nick turned the TV off.

Mulberry glared at him and stomped down the hall to the bedroom.

A few moments later, she came out wearing dark blue jeans that hugged her hips and a blue sweater that brought out the blue hue in her eyes.

“Let’s go,” Nick shoved his feet into his shoes and waited for her to do the same.

“Where are we going?”

“Out! It’s beautiful.”

“It’s cold,” Mulberry shoved her hands into her pockets.

They got on the elevator and rode down in silence.

They passed a professional tennis player in the lobby, who nodded at them.

“Look at that sun!” Nick held the door open.

“Yeah, it’s still cold.”

“It’s nine degrees Celsius. It is not cold.”

“To you,” Mulberry said, but her lips quirked.

Nick opened the car for her.

As she buckled up, she flashed him a small smile, and Nick took that as a positive sign.

“Any hint?” Mulberry asked.

He turned on the highway, taking them out of the city.

“Nope. I think you trust me by now, don’t you?”

Mulberry turned down his music.

“Hey!” Nick turned it back up.

“I don’t know. Your taste in music sucks. And you turned off my music this morning.”

Nick laughed and kept driving.
