Only once did he try taking someone to this place that meant so much to him.

It had gone horribly.

But if he could prove Mulberry wasn’t compatible with him, not only because she was his charge, but because she was too young, she didn’t like what he did, she was wrong for him, for so many reasons, then maybe he could get his dick to simmer the hell down.

Being around her was getting to him because he wanted to throw her against the wall and fuck her.

He wanted to force her to her knees and shoot his cum down her throat while staring into her big grey-blue eyes, hearing her whimpers.

“I’m sorry I turned off your music.”

Finally, she looked his way. “You don’t have to ruin other people’s joy, you know.”

“I know. I just like quiet in the mornings.”

“Yeah, quiet in your dungeon. I like music while I make breakfast.”

“Your eggs were good.”

She rewarded him with a tiny smile. “Thanks. What is this place?”

They’d turned off the highway, onto a rural road, along a gravel driveway. “My favourite place.”

“Misfit Paws Rescue?” Mulberry read from the paw-shaped sign at the driveway’s end.

“Yeah, I volunteer here.”

His heart jumped into his throat, and he scoffed.

Why was he so nervous? He was showing her something that meant a lot to him.

If she didn’t understand it, that’s fine.

Nick parked behind the house, smiling as the orchestra of low barks and excited yips rang out. “Ready?”

“I have to see this!” Mulberry scrambled out of the car before him. “Hello, puppies!” Mulberry peered through the large dog run, where about eight puppies were running around excitedly.

Nick crouched down, noticing how the litter had grown since his last visit.

“These guys all look the same.”

“Yeah, these are the latest litter and ready to go home. Most of them have been adopted.”

“Can I pet them?”

“Yes.”

Mulberry crouched down on the gravel, sticking her fingers through the fence as puppies licked her fingers.

“I thought I heard guests!”

“Hello, Meera” Nick hugged the petite brown-skinned woman. Her eyes twinkled at him.

“Who is this?”

“Mulberry Stevens, is this place yours?” Mulberry extended her hand.

“All forty-five acres, rolling fields. Currently thirty dogs, six horses, twelve goats. Yes, it is mine. It’s nice to meet you. Do you want a tour?”
