“Yes, please,” I said, smiling against Alex.
“I volunteer to watch,” he said.
I snorted, grinning again. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath before relaxing again.
“I think it's nap time then.”
CHAPTERSIXTEEN
thursday threats
ALEX
It wasthe middle of the night when I slipped out of bed and went to the living room. Anne was actually asleep, to my surprise, and so was Sylvia.
Earlier, the three of us had woken from our nap and had dinner before crawling back into bed for a movie and snuggling. Even between the two of them, I hadn’t been able to fall asleep though.
It wasn’t the heat that was keeping me awake, it was the thought that the three of us were being stalked by Alfred. He was very much alive, and while we hadn’t been able to sense him anywhere close to my home, it made me nervous.
We’d try to switch places later today, but even that felt like a bad idea.
He was closing in. If it were any other person in the world, I might have told myself I was being paranoid.
But not with Alfred.
His texts had been clear yesterday.
He was coming for us.
I was freshly mated now, still in heat, although it was starting to lessen since Anne and I had made our bond. I could feel both of them now, and it grounded me.
But, it also made me scared. It made me scared that he would take them away from me.
I still didn’t like that everyone refused to leave too. I didn’t want anyone else to get hurt.
It was a clusterfuck all over again.
I drew in a deep breath and went to the kitchen, wandering to the fridge. I started to reach for the fridge, but then paused.
A chill worked over me. A warning.
I felt my magic react, my fingertips buzzing.
I looked back into the darkness of the living room, narrowing my eyes.
I wasn’t alone.
Somehow, someone had slipped in.
Fuck.
The thought enraged me to a point that nearly tipped me into seeing red. Instead, I grit my teeth and raised my hand.
A burst of red magic lit up the room, barreling straight towards me. I moved out of the way with a growl, barking out a spell that could change reality.
The lights in the house turned on, the room starting to spin as I was faced with none other than Hazard and two demons.
Hazard growled, sending another blast of magic towards me.
