Inferna waved her hand, cutting Alex off. “Don’t worry. I already told you that you’re not in this alone.”

Art held up his phone. “I’m already texting everyone.”

“Thank you,” Alex sighed, leaning back. “I’m ready for this to be done.”

“We all are,” Inferna said, taking a sip of her coffee. She narrowed her eyes on Alex for a moment, and then looked at me, then Sylvia. “Who would have thought,” she chuckled.

I raised a brow but smiled. Her assessment of the three of us was warm.

“Well,” Art said, leaning and setting down his phone. “We have reinforcements arriving. I don’t think it would be good to go to the office at this point since he has made this move.”

“I don’t either,” Alex said. “I’m concerned for everyone’s safety.”

“You should worry about yourself,” Inferna said. “The rest of us will be okay. None of us is the one in heat still.”

Alex winced and I felt a prick of desire.

Sylvia looked up at me, our gazes locking for a moment. There was no place now for the three of us to take care of his needs until Alfred was gone.

The sound of a text message rang through the room. Alex paused for a moment and then reached into his pocket and pulled his phone out. I could feel the panic through the bond and already knew that the bastard had messaged him again.

“What did he say?” Inferna asked, reading him too.

Alex was frozen for a moment, his eyes flashing despite his expression being emotionless. “Has anyone heard from Cinder, Mich, or Lora yet?”

We all looked at Art. He shook his head, already hitting Cinder’s contact to call. He hit the speaker phone, the ring echoing through the room.

My heart started to pound a little harder, anxiety working through me.

It kept ringing…and ringing.

Alex stood up, his muscles tense. “He says that he has taken them hostage. All three of them. And that if I don’t meet him alone, he will kill them.”

His words chilled me to the bone.

“You’re not going alone,” Sylvia whispered.

“He isn’t playing anymore,” Alex said. “At this point, I should just go to him and handle him alone.”

“No,” I said, rising from my seat. “That’s not happening.”

“Anne— I can’t keep—”

“You can’t keep doing things alone,” I hissed.

I put my cup of coffee down before I sent it flying. I then placed my hands on my hips, not afraid to challenge him.

“I’m doing this,” he said, his tone darkening.

“Sure, but not alone,” I said. “Everyone in here agrees.”

“At the end of the day, it’s my final say,” he snapped.

We stared at each other for a moment, my temper becoming more and more volatile. “You’re not my boss right now,” I said.

“I still am—”

“No. Not if you do this. I will fucking quit and show up there anyway. You’re not going to force us into doing what you want. We need to think more about this. How the fuck am I supposed to be able to rely on you as my mate when you obviously don’t think you can rely on me? Or Sylvia.”
