We all looked up the stair case as the doors clicked behind us.

It was ominously silent, every breath and sound that we made echoing like it was into a microphone.

“I don’t like this,” Billy muttered.

Ember sighed, pulling her purple locks back into a high bun. “Let's go.”

The four of us started up the steps. Meanwhile, my monster started to rear its head, getting hungrier and hungrier to break truly free.

If I allowed that, I could take the three of us up much quicker. Ember was avoiding using too much magic to draw attention, but…

We hit the third flight and paused, Billy doubling over for a moment. “Fuck. You’d think being a top was enough of a workout.”

“Billy,” Charlie hissed.

Ember and I both snorted, the tension breaking for just a moment.

“I could take us up easily,” I said, “but I’d have to be fully shifted.”

“Is there some danger to that?” Billy asked.

There was some, but mostly for those who might try to hurt me.

“It can be a little bit, but not for the three of you.”

“Let’s do it,” Ember said. “Or else we’re all going to roll into this fight covered in sweat.”

The three of them took a step back, giving me room.

“More,” I said, wincing.

They all took another step back and I turned, gauging the space.

Then, I finally let her free.

My body began to change, growing and morphing. Bones and muscles snapped, my vision changing. Letting my most monstrous part free was always easy, it was chaining it back that hurt sometimes.

Within a few moments, I was fully shifted into a massive black spider. My legs felt the vibration of the building, my senses amplifying.

There were enemies above us, waiting for us to come up.

I could feel their intentions, their hatred.

“We’re not alone,” I whispered, my voice a feathery sound now.

“Didn’t think so,” Charlie said. “How…how are you taking us up?”

“Silk,” I said.

I moved quickly, wrapping my silken strands around each of them. Two of my legs held on to the strands.

“I’m confused on how this is going to work,” Billy said.

“We’re going to guard her ass,” Ember said.

I snorted, but she was right.

“I don't like this,” Charlie said. He would have paled, but that was impossible for him.
