I felt his magic snap, cracking my own spell that was binding him for just a moment. His hand raised, revealing a button that was in his hands.

He pressed it before I could get him back under control. My magic snapped, keeping him from moving again, but it was too late.

All four of us looked up at the sound of an explosion.

Followed by another.

“Oh fuck,” Minni whispered, her eyes widening.

The building groaned around us.

“You fucking bastard,” I breathed, my rage finally tipping me over the edge. “Get everyone out,” I said, looking around. “Now. I will handle him.”

Inferna, Art, and Minni stared at me for a moment— but the sound of another explosion had them moving fast. Art was already drawing a portal, his eyes glistening with a hint of fear for everyone who was now in danger.

“We’ll get them out,” Inferna said, her eyes burning with fury. “We’ll get everyone out before the building comes down. I expect to see you after.”

“You will,” I said.

She nodded and then went through Art’s portal. The three of them disappeared, leaving me alone with Alfred.

He couldn’t move but his gaze was still one of satisfaction.

Of victory.

“You haven’t won,” I said, the spell I had him bound with becoming more and more volatile. “You will never win. They will get everyone out.”

“They can try,” he said as another explosion went off.

I felt my bond to Sylvia and Anne tighten, and that was it.

I didn’t have time for this fucker.

This was the end of him.

I raised my hand, letting all of my magic flow straight into him. He snarled, his body struggling as I began to open a circle straight to hell.

“No!” he growled. “You need me! You need me to save them!”

“No, I don’t,” I growled.

He barked out a laugh as I poured more power until he realized that I truly was powerful enough to send him back.

“No,” he said again. “You were meant to be with me!”

“I never was, Alfred,” I growled.

The air howled around us as I opened a portal, heat flowing into the room. Alfred let out a harsh yell as his body began to burn, his soul being torn in half by me.

I could feel the magic exhausting itself faster and faster, but I didn’t stop.

With a clean tear, his body burst into flames, his soul severed. Lightning burst from my fingertips and I sent him straight into the portal, letting everything go.

The lights went out, the floor grumbling beneath me as the portal shut.

Alfred was gone this time.

Gone and not coming back.
