It would take a very long time for his soul to come back together.

He would not make it back here.

The only light in the office now was from the particles of magic floating around me like embers and the morning light coming in from the windows.

The building groaned beneath me, a reminder that I needed to get out.

The floor started to crack beneath me.

Fuck.

I drew a portal through the air, one that would take me to the place we’d all agreed to meet.

I could only hope that I wouldn’t be alone.

ANNE

The world was crumblingaround us, literally.

I moved across the floor, dragging two monsters with me to the portal that Art had made. All of our teams had met back up only to split up again to get everyone out that we could.

We’d managed to find Mich and Cinder, but not Lora yet.

I could feel my bond to Alex, could feel the magic tugging harder. I was scared for him, scared that Alfred had hurt him. I was scared that something would happen to all of us.

We had all been through hell and back together, and I was thankful to know that if we made it to tomorrow— it would be the last time we would hear about the demon that was so desperate for omega magic.

I tossed the two monsters through the portal even though they were my enemies. Even though these fuckers had tried to kill us.

The building started to groan again, threatening to come down.

“Fuck,” I growled, looking back. “Lora has to be here somewhere. I’m going to go after her.”

Sylvia brought a witch and a monster to the portal, pushing them through.

“We can’t find her,” Sylvia said, wincing. “We tried. We found Cinder and Mich, but I can’t sense her even in my full form.”

“We can’t leave her,” I said.

“We’re running out of time,” Art said, his eyes widening as part of the ceiling in the hall fell. “This entire building is going to go.”

“We can’t leave her,” I said again.

Art let out a loud breath and nodded, closing the portal. “We have maybe five minutes. I don’t know how to track her.”

Sylvia made a face, looking at me. “I don’t know either.”

“She’s part demon,” I said, looking around. “Maybe a summoning circle?”

“I would need something of hers—”

The air shimmered next to Art, and Cinder came through with Ember, the two of them covered in dirt and blood.

“Cinder!” I hissed. “You’re supposed to be resting.”
