“Same,” Cinder said. They were still holding Lora, but Mich was with them now, battered but okay.
We were all okay.
Alex let out a breath and I looked down at him. I could feel as the magic drained from him and it felt… strange.
Sylvia and I held him close, waiting for him to speak.
“Hi,” he whispered.
“That was amazing,” I said, swallowing back tears. “You saved everyone.”
“I didn’t,” he said, his voice hoarse. “Not at all. I just kept the building from hurting more people.”
“Well, let's get out of here before the humans close in,” Inferna sighed. “I’m sure this will be on the news.”
“Oh I’m sure,” Alex snorted.
He sat up with a groan, and then Sylvia and I pulled him to standing.
He waved his hand in the air, but stopped, unable to even make a spark of magic.
“I’ve got you, boss,” Art said.
“Can we go to my house?” Alex asked. “I can order food and we can make sure everyone is okay.”
“Yes,” Art said. “You… need to make sure you’re okay too.”
Alex waved his hand, ignoring him. Art made a portal, one that all of us went through.
We landed in Alex’s backyard, now away from the craziness that had just happened.
Tears filled my eyes. Did this mean that it was finally over?
“Anne. Sylvia.”
I looked up, my head spinning as Alex pulled me and Sylvia into his arms. I let out a choked sob, the three of us holding on for dear life.
We weren’t the only ones. Everyone had made it out, and everyone was hugging someone.
We’d made it out of the nightmare that had become Warts & Claws Inc.
CHAPTERTWENTY-ONE
pizza party
SYLVIA
All of uswere in the living room, every chair in Alex’s house now taken. There was chatter surrounding me, everyone talking about everything that had happened.
I was happy because I was sandwiched between Anne and Alex, and both of them had yet to let me go since we’d made it back.
“I have ordered a lot of pizza,” Inferna said, raising her voice to get everyone's attention. “Likea lotof pizza.”
“I’d say that’s some corporate bullshit, but it’s hard to say no to pizza,” Billy sighed. Jaehan and Charlie both chuckled at him.
“Well,” Inferna said, snorting. “The Warts & Claws office is…kind of done now, I suppose.”
“Is it?” Lea asked.
