I drew in a sharp breath, swallowing hard. I was so glad she was alive.

Cinder stole a kiss from her, the two of them whispering things to each other for a moment.

Fuck. I needed my mates. Desperately. Splitting up earlier had been one of the hardest things I had ever done, even though it had been for the best.

Warts and Claws had been my home for awhile now, but like Lora— I never wanted to come back.

I never wanted to see this fucking building again, which was good, because it was coming down.

“Alright,” Ember breathed a sigh of relief.

“Fuck this office,” I said, looking around. “Fuck this whole building.”

“Agreed,” Cinder said, waving their hand to create a portal.

The building started to move, the floor starting to crack as it made a terrible noise. All four of us went through the portal right as the ceiling collapsed, the end of my tail the last thing to come through.

We landed on the sidewalk, the sound of screams and chattering surrounding us. My eyes widened as I looked up, realizing that we were still in front of the office building.

The air burned with magic, the kind of power that shouldn’t have existed. I felt my bond to Alex pull sharply again, pain radiating through my body.

I immediately moved across the street, weaving through people that were getting out of the way.

“Anne!”

I looked up to see Sylvia standing next to our mate— our mate who was almost blinding.

I ran to them, fear running through me again.

“He’s going to push the building through a portal,” Sylvia said, her six eyes wide with fear.

“There’s no way,” I said, looking at him.

He was unaware of us, his magic burning hotter and hotter. Alex’s eyes were completely iridescent, his skin glowing.

“Alex,” I whispered.

“He can do it,” Sylvia said, her hand slipping into mine. “He can. He has that much power. We both know this.”

It was true, although this…this could be how he lost that power.

I drew in a breath, watching as the building began to slowly fall. Alex let out a groan, and I felt pain rush through me. Sylvia let out a soft squeak, her hands holding on to me.

I didn’t like that he was in pain. I didn’t like any of this, but I still watched in wonder as a portal began to open.

Ember suddenly ran up, followed by Jaehan, Art, and Calen. The four of them surrounded him, and Sylvia and I stepped back— watching as the witches worked their spells.

The sky darkened for a moment, and then the ground opened up beneath the building. Alex let go of the entirety and we all watched as it crumpled straight into the depths of wherever that lead.

The portal snapped shut and Alex fell back, passing out straight into our arms.

All of us surrounded him, standing in front of what was now just an empty lot.

“Fuck,” Inferna said, her eyes wide. “That was…”

“Insane,” Art breathed.

“Weird,” Billy chimed. “Also, I quit.”
