“Is everything alright?” Dina asked.

“Couldn’t be better, Dr. Jensen wanted to see if I could help out on their newest fundraiser, and I need to go check on an idea for it. I probably won’t be back in the office until Monday, if Mr. Nichols or Doug calls send them to my phone.”

“Will do, is Emma coming back this weekend?”

“No, not until the next one,” she told her.

“I can’t imagine having a two-week honeymoon,” Dina said dreamily.

“Trust me, you’ll have your chance soon enough,” Stacey laughed.

“Aaron’s never going to propose,” Dina said almost grimly.

“Oh, I wouldn’t worry too much,” she told her, “he’s one of the keepers like Miles. I’ve got a sixth sense about these things.”

“Is that why you break up with so many guys each year?” Dina joked.

“Why waste time on someone who’s not Mr. Right, and even less of a Mr. Right Now?”

“Good point,” Dina agreed. “Maybe that’s what I should do.”

“What—break up with Aaron? Dina if you do that, you’ll be losing the best thing in your life.”

“For a woman who says she’s not interested in love, you sure are quick to convince others not to give up on it,” Dina laughed.

“What can I say, I can tell when it’s true and when it’s not. Enjoy your weekend,” she said walking out and making her way across town to the hotel. She knocked on Jake’s door happy when it opened almost immediately. He was on the phone so she waited patiently until he was done settling herself down on the couch, knowing if she went anywhere near the bed, they wouldn’t leave it for the rest of the weekend. That’s how it had been since the night of the wedding. She had barely made it to work on time Monday, having to go to her apartment for a change of clothes then backtracking to pick Emma’s wedding dress up dropping it at the cleaners then sprinting through rush hour traffic to get to the office for her meeting with a new client.

Jake ended his call and turned to her grinning, “You just can’t stay away, can you?”

“Excuse me?” she teased.

“It’s not even four o’clock yet you’re already here,” he said reaching out for her.

She pushed his hands away halting him midstream, “Actually, I was hoping we could talk.”

“Sounds ominous,” he stated taking a seat next to her.

“It’s not that bad,” she smiled. “I was approached this afternoon to help with a fundraiser for an expansion on the children’s’ ward at the hospital.”

“And you want me to donate?” he asked.

“Something like that,” she said sheepishly. “They’re having trouble coming up with an idea for the event and I was thinking that you might be able to help.”

“I’m listening,” he said encouragingly.

“Have you heard of a bachelor’s auction?”

“Where women bid on eligible men for dates?” he laughed.

“Yes, and I was hoping that you and some of your friends might agree to be some of the bachelors?” she asked with a hopeful shrug.

“What?” he asked bursting into laughter.

“Oh, come on Jake, if you and a couple of your buddies, teammates, whatever you want to call them, do this there’s a good chance we could raise enough with the one event, and depending on the levels of concern we could make the dates be to a charity ball instead of plain one-on-one dates.”

“And who exactly would be bidding on me?”

“Lots of women,” she grinned.
