“What about the one sitting in front of me?” he asked putting his arms around her inflaming her senses.

“We’ll just have to see about that won’t we?” she giggled.

“We certainly will,” he said slipping her jacket off beginning to unbutton her top. It quickly followed the jacket onto floor, and he picked her up, loving the feel of her legs wrapping around his waist as they made their way to the bed.

Stacey loved the way she felt when they made love and lying in his arms afterwards was just as exciting. Listening to his heartbeat slowly, oh so slowly, return to normal made her quiver with want, it didn’t matter how many times they’d been together this past week the desire never lessened, and it continued on day after day.

By Thursday evening she was exhausted from lack of sleep as well as from the craziness at work the past two days and then when she added on the plans, she had come up with for the fundraiser she was ready to sleep for a week. She was running late and didn’t have time to stop and chat with her friends on staff as she made her way through the maze of corridors to the conference room they used for meetings.

“Sorry I’m late,” she said finally making her way into the meeting.

“We were beginning to think you’d changed your mind,” Dr. Jensen laughed.

“Not a chance,” she smiled. “There was a small meltdown yesterday with one of the companies I work with that’s kept me hopping.”

“We’re glad you’re here now,” Mrs. Hattie Murphy, the head of the fundraising board, stated.

“Mark said he gave you an overview of our ideas,” Tammie Cooper, the wife of the lead pediatric doctor, said. “Did any of them strike you as a possibility?”

“To be honest,” she said in her kindest tone, “no. I’ve thought about the suggestions and came up with a few ideas of my own. Would you like to hear them?”

“Please,” her friend and nurse, Lizzie, said. “They can’t be any worse than some of the ones we suggested.”

Stacey smiled relaxing as she began presenting her ideas. “They’re still a little rough but the first idea since this is for the children would be for children and their families. I have a friend whose family owns a carnival. I called them to see if they’d be willing to help and they said they would provide all of the entertainment for free. All proceeds would go to the event, we’d have to deduct the electricity, food costs, permits, that sort of thing but they typically can sell out the big tent for three shows a day. If we did a three-day weekend that would be nine full shows.”

“That’s fabulous,” Lizzie exclaimed.

“I agree it would be a great way to show that we’re committed to the children, but I’m unsure if that would be enough to reach the amount, we need to meet our goal,” Mrs. Murphy said.

“The amount of food we’d need would cost a fortune,” Tammie said.

“I represent a middle sized food distributor and I’m sure I can work out a deal with them for costs, and there are surely other companies that would be willing to donate for it as well. I know plenty of PR reps at the corporations around town and I can be quite persuasive, when need be,” she grinned.

“That she can,” Mark agreed.

“That’s the first idea, the second one will most likely bring in a lot more money but if we decide to go with it, we’ll have to act quickly. Some of you know that my friend Emma got married about two weeks ago, well her husband’s best friend happens to be Jake Warren, yes, the Super Bowl winning football player,” she said when a few eyes widened. “After Mark told me about needing fundraiser ideas, I thought about a bachelor auction. I talked with Jake, and he’s agreed to it and knows a few other players from both his team as well as from here in Seattle who are willing to be part of it,” Stacey began and she saw the interest in the faces around her allowing her to continue.

“Now most bachelor auctions end with the winner going on a date at their discretion but with the potential of having so many bachelors coming in from out of town there may not be time for separate dates. Instead, the idea is to either do an early auction with a dinner dance to follow or to do the auction one weekend and have a charity ball within the next couple which would mean three events really,” she finished then laughed looking around the table at the stunned faces.

“Where on earth did you come from?” Lizzie joked.

“You’re brilliant,” Tammie told her. “This could draw in an amazing amount of donations.”

“Stacey, I agree these are amazing ideas,” Mark said.

“Well hold on because there’re two other things that I currently have on this idea. One, Jake has said he was going to be in town for a bit to hang out with Miles and he’s willing to help with publicity and anything else he can. Two, so far, we have six players who have confirmed their participation and they’ve each agreed to match the winning bid they get,” Stacey said with a huge grin on her face. “I can handle any of the PR side of it and with Jake and the others as the main draw I’m sure we can find plenty of women who will give generously.”

“I don’t know about anyone else, but I give both ideas a huge yes,” Tammie said.

“I agree,” Mrs. Murphy stated. “What type of timeframe are we looking at?”

“We’re looking at the latest being the very beginning of July for the ball because after that they’ll be heading off to training camp,” she said.

“I see,” Mrs. Murphy said, “then I suggest we all get to work.”

Stacey couldn’t help but smile all the way home and didn’t realize until she was knocking on Jake’s door that she’d just thought of the hotel as home. She shook her head knowing it wasn’t the hotel she thought of as home but Jake when he opened the door.

“They didn’t like the ideas?” he asked catching the motion.
