“Who says there would have been one if you’d stayed for another week? You never would have forced me to give up football I know you wouldn’t have.”

“But you didn’t eight years ago…”

“I did I was just too hurt to think that you didn’t want us to be here. I thought you didn’t want to have the public in our business.”

“I don’t but you’re Jake ‘The Jet’ Warren and I’m just the pretty girl on your arm again.”

“You were never just that Cee. You were my girl, and everyone knew it.”

“No, they didn’t, because if they did you wouldn’t have let all those other girls hang all over you. You would have known that it hurt like hell to see that you let them because Iwasyour girl,” she said sitting up as she grabbed his old tee and pulled it on. “The entire time I just kept wondering when you’d finally see that they were offering you everything the way I couldn’t.”

“What are you talking about baby? What can’t you offer me?”

“Variety…no strings…adventure…”

“Why would I need any of that when I have you? You are the only person I want; you are more than enough for me Cee.”

“For now…I don’t want to fight Jake. We have two weeks until the dance and then you’ll have to leave for training camp. I don’t want to waste our time fighting over the past. I just want to be here with you until you go.”

“Okay,” he said coming over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist as he pulled her back against him. “We’ll let it go for now but one day we’re going to talk it over. All of it, what happened to us eight years ago, who’s been between us, and what’s happening right now that you don’t want to admit to.”

“Whatever you say Jake…”

“For now I think it’s time for bed,” he whispered against her neck as he dropped a kiss on it before dropping another down the side of it as his hands slid underneath the shirt.

“Again?” she teased feeling his need against her back.

“Always with you, you should remember that quite well baby. It’s the same then as it is now.”

“Wonder what the world would say knowing their football god is desperate for one woman.”

“That he’s the luckiest bastard in the world for getting her, you’re incredible Cee. You have to know that baby. It’s why there are so many of the Brokens around this place.”

“You were the first, weren’t you?” she teased turning around to kiss him. “You were crushed just like them.”

“More than them because I knew the passion inside you baby and now, I’ve got it again and I can’t let it go. I won’t let you go without a fight Cee.”

“That’s a big statement Jake; sure you’re up to proving it?”

“Would you like to see what all I’m up for?” he asked with a grin as he laid back onto the bed bringing her down on top of him.

“Why don’t I show you what you’re good for?” she countered sinking down onto his length as they pushed the other further.

“You were always amazing at that Cee, and you’ve certainly gotten better with age,” he groaned as she moved against his body.

“I know, let’s see how well you keep up. ‘The Jet’ has a reputation after all,” she replied kissing him to stop him from talking as her heart urged her to tell him the truth. She ignored it and listened instead to her brain that told her it’d be pointless, everyone left her eventually, and Jake wouldn’t be any different.

Chapter 9

“Great doing business with you Jake,” Rob stated as they shook hands.

“Believe me this move is exactly what I need,” he told the room. “You won’t regret it.”

“When the best QB in the country asks to be traded to us we weren’t about to say no,” Vic replied.

“We just wanted to know why you wanted the move,” Nelson added.

“And now that you all know?” he asked.
