He had set in the seats closer to Gisella and farthest away from me.

Forgetting Rome was high up on my list.

ChapterTwelve

Nora

Lifting the glasses up and onto my head, I rubbed at the bridge of my nose. I’d been staring at emails for half the day. I’d sorely missed my desk at DeLuca Tech though. Even the glow of the pink Himilayin salt lamp that glowed on the corner on my desk, a gift from my parents. Working over the small desk in Italy had been such a headache and had stressed my back out.

A massage was in order and soon.

“Nora,” I looked up and found myself staring at my boss.

“Sebastian,” I grinned.

He shook his head. “I wanted to say, thank you, again.”

Before I could say another word, he was holding up an envelope. He tapped the desk with it before handing it over to me.

“This is payment for what you spent personally,” he said. “And a little extra.”

“Mr. DeLuca,” I shook my head. “You didn’t have to do that.”

He grinned. “So a sex club, huh?”

“Your sister,” I shrugged.

His smile faltered for just a moment. “Yeah….talk about a work in progress.”

I nodded. The moment the jet had touched down on the tarmac in Seattle, instead of my boss being there to greet us, his grandmother had. Sebastian DeLuca might have been what some called scary but Isotta DeLuca was downright petrifying.

“How are plans coming along for the Halloween Bash, by the way?”

Part of me wanted emit a groan. I already had a plan to meet with Brie at their home tomorrow concerning their engagement party.

“It’s going,” I replied.

“I’m gonna have to give you a raise if I want to keep you as my assistant,” Sebastian gave my desk a gentle thumb before starting to depart.

“I’d like that!” I called after him.

He threw his hand up in the air and gave a wave. I noted the time and saw that it was literally five on the dot. The office was becoming more and more empty. I was one of the only people still around. Mr. DeLuca had started leaving before five lately in order to get home to Brie and his girls. I wondered what that said about me that I was still keeping his old hours.

The envelope sat on my desk and I shoved it into my purse, not even bothering to count it.

My phone dinged and I found my sister texting me. Rain was demanding that I meet her downtown at the bar our brother owned.

It’s a Friday,she texted.

And?I replied knowing where she was about to try and take this.

You have nothing else to do. Or anyone to do for that matter. My sister had ripped the proverbial Band-Aid off concerning my lack of love life.

Sorry, I think I should just stay in tonight.

Nora, I know you. You’re still at work. And even your fine ass boss is probably gone.

I frowned.How did you know?
