My body went into defense mood and finally shoved past him. Surprisingly, he let me but followed close behind as I went out into the living room. Finding my clothes scattered, I began to pick them up.

“Something you want to ask, Darlin?”

Mason’s voice was crawling up my spine and giving me tingles. I didn’t care if he was watching me at this point, I simply wanted to get my clothes on and get gone.

“What?”

“I just found you in my closet, Nora. You shouldn’t have been in there.”

A lump formed in my throat as I shoved my arms through my shirt, my eyes still looking for the bra and panties. I spotted the bra but who knew where in the hell the underwear were, and then I remembered they were ruined.

He’d ripped them from my body…

I whirled around and fluffed my hair, finding Mason leaning against the counter. His eyes seemed to have gone dark and he watched me. “You’re right. I was totally invading your privacy.”

“So again, I have to ask…is there something you want to know?”

I shook my head before picking up my pants. “I j-just want to go now, Mason.”

He smirked and then folded his arms over his chest. The man’s eyes were burning a hole right through me but I didn’t care.

My shoes were over by the bookshelf and I plopped down and shoved them on quickly. Wind hit my face and suddenly he was staring back down at me.

“Ask whatever it is you need to know, so that we can eat breakfast.”

I swallowed the lump that’d been sitting in my throat. “I don’t need to ask anything. And I’m not hungry. Thank you though.”

Mason laughed and it sounded so strange. I dared to look up and I swore it wasn’t him there.

“I need to tell you something, Nora.”

I shook my head, once again moving away from him to get my purse. My cellphone was in my purse. If I could at least get a message out to send for help…

My purse was sitting on the counter.

Mason’s body was once again between me and the exit.

“Darlin,” the heat of Mason’s fingertips tilted my head up to meet his gaze. His thumb eased over my bottom lip. I resisted the urge to flick my tongue out and touch it.

“I really need…”

“I won’t apologize for what I am, Nora.”

Another lump formed and his hand dropped away.

“I like killing. I like blood. I love the way it feels when it splatters against my face. I’m…”

I took a breath, knowing I shouldn’t be hearing any of this shit. I finished his sentence for him feeling nearly breathless and partly dizzy. “An assassin.”

Mason chuckled. “And that. Baby, this thing I’ve got inside of me…when I say we... it’s hard to explain but it’s something I was born with, but it likes all those things even more than me.”

“Oh my God, I’m never going to find out what happens on the last season of Stranger Things, am I?”

Mason jerked his head up, and surprise colored his face. “What?”

“Your gonna kill me…aren’t you?”

He laughed then. It was loud and penetrating and strangely warm. Who knew the head of Sebastian DeLuca’s security team could laugh. He clutched at his stomach and slapped at his knees, laughing at me.
