I cringed just a bit as a waitress came over. “What can I get y’all?”

“I’ll have a glass of …pinot?” I had no idea what this place served.

She smiled and thumped her pad, “Gotcha doll face, and you handsome?”

Mason shook his head. “Nothing.”

“Alright, I’ll be back with that glass.”

“Wait,” I told her and she paused. “Bring the whole bottle.”

She nodded and the sped off.

“What’s the actual plan?” I asked Mason who was in surveillance mode. His eyes were tracking every single person in this raggedy building.

“I want you to stay by the exit when things start popping off,” Mason’s eyes had landed on the pool table.

Kyle’s dumb ass was playing pool with some other guys and running his mouth. He had a shaggy looking mullet and I wondered where in the hell Rain had picked him up. My phone dinged in my hand.

Tell Mason not to hurt him too bad…

My glasses slipped forward just a tad and before I could relay the message. Mason was up and moving around. The waitress came back with my glass of Pinot.

“Enjoy,” she smiled.

“Thanks,” I started to sip and watched my guy begin to stalk his prey.

His leather jacket almost seemed to give off a shiny black warning that simply said don’t fuck with me. Mason walked up on the guy and starting talking to him. The other man’s face immediately turned up and I knew some shit was about to go down.

What’s happening?Rain had texted.

I’d nearly forgotten about my sister and this being her mess.Bitch, I think it’s about to go down.

Kyle and his mullet had just stabbed a finger in Mason’s chest and suddenly his boys were flanking him. I saw Mason look down at the offending finger on his chest and I figured if Kyle didn’t know it, he was soon going to regret that.

Some people were watching, and others were minding their business. A bar fight was probably part of the norm.

Then it happened.

Mason let Kyle and his mullet throw the first punch. He landed a few more and then something happened and the next thing I knew Mason was breaking a pool cue over his back. Kyle’s buddies decided to try their luck next.

My breath was hitched in my throat and all the sounds in the room became dull. It felt as if there was a heartbeat in my palms.

I pulled down a few sips of wine and then slapped down two twenties, because it was starting to get rowdy as hell. People were watching the fight now. One of Kyle’s buddies had Mason in a headlock and I was starting to get blocked from the fight.

Getting up, I moved to where I could get a better view. It was just in time too because Kyle, his mullet flapping with his movements went to punch Mason but wound up getting his buddy in the face. Mason took advantage and stumbled back against the wall. They seemed to all be closing in on him at the point.

Fists were really flying, and I saw blood spew from Mason’s lip as the fat one in Kyle’s friend group landed a punch. Mason roared and then people started to get in the way again.

Some bar bunny dressed in a short jean skirt, a tank top and cowboy boot came up next to me.

“Damn, he’s fine as fuck,” she remarked.

“He is,” I replied.

She looked me over. “I think I’m gonna take him home honey….you must not be fucking him right if he’s coming in here picking fights.”

Before I knew it, I was grabbing the bottle of Pinot off the table and pouring it out. It splashed all over the floor.
